A while back there was a subcompact, sightless model withabreviated everything. I do not know the model #. What, beside the price, is the story with these?

I think you are talking about the Ultra RCP II.  It is listed on Kimber's website under "2003 Special Editions."  Here... www.kimberamerica.com/special.php
