Use to have a USP. Bought parts and switched it from V1 to V9. Back then preferred to carry cocked and locked now I prefer to carry with chamber loaded and hammer down. Liked the idea of a manual safety like my old USP, but once I got it home and started fondling it I can see the potential for thumbing the safety on accidentally when reaching for the slide release under stress.

Why are you thumbing the slide release?

To release the slide upon reloading a fresh magazine?

I realize there's two schools of thought for releasing the slide after a reload; hitting the slide release or pulling the slide. I prefer and have trained for the latter.

Ah, I'm aware of those, was unsure if you were carrying a fully loaded gun or not.

The LS is being discontinued. You should trade it for a straight up L model. Still, I don't think pressing down on the safety will hurt anything as the decocker is on the back of the frame.

Discontinued?! You sure bout that? Both versions of the P30L are still all over the place.
Nah, to much of a hassle to trade it off now. Got a pretty good deal from kesselrings.
I'm not worried about pressing down on the safety, I'm worried about pressing it up when going for the slide release.

I'm all out of colors, lol.

I'm just going to reshape the safeties and order new parts to replace the mod if I need to sell it. Its unfortunate HK didn't make these guns configurable like the USPs.

Ok now I'm tracking. And yes I was told the LS was being discontinued.

To the OP: keep your thumb on top of the safety during firing/manipulation.  Almost every single handgun I own has a manual safety and I've never done what you describe.

Bump to get this answered,  sounds like bullshit.  Perhaps you meant the P30LS V1?  Those were only imported in limited numbers (500 IIRC).

Don't know about the discontinuation thing, but I posted the same question about the thumb safety over at HKpro forums. A few said my version is a rare gun.

IIRC I read it at Pistol-Training.com. Wherever I read it, it was from someone I trust to be right or I'd have paid more attention to who made the claim.

If it's wrong, I'll be happy, as that is the model of P30 that interests me most.

You haven't mentioned which model you have, as there are two.  The P30LS Light Lem (V1?) is somewhat rare, around 500 were imported by "mistake" from Germany.  The P30LS DA/SA (V3) is a current production model, I wouldn't call it rare but at this time it is in higher demand than other models.

Do not take a dremel or anything to the safety to correct a problem that doesn't even exist.  I understand what you are describing, and it is a training problem/grip issue.  Either correct this or trade for a non safety model.
