Well my first all out Custom 1911 has arrived
Life for my .45 started out as a nice reliable GI .45! Fun to shoot, but could not see the sights and wanted more! I then sent my GI out to Chuck Rogers @ www.rogersprecision.com , to have the Golf Ball treatment done to the front strap, and Mainspring Housing, Add a Dawson Precision Light rail, and Rear Novak night sights with his own twist! The Front sight was left tall to be later sighted in and have the tritium insert installed by Bob Rogers @ www.rodgerspistolsmithing.com ! As soon as it came back from Chuck, it went to Bob! IM me for a detailed description of his work...Never mind here is the list:
Install and Blend Grip safety
Bevel Mag well
Adjust front sight to proper height
Install, re contour, and blend thumb safety
Fit, contour & polish barrel bushing
Re-crown Barrel to 45 degrees
Re-Shape & polish Barrel throat
Install the sights
Reliability package and trigger job-The trigger is Flawless...Nice Crisp clean break at 3 3/4 pounds.
De-Horn the pistol
Fit and Install extended Mag catch
Fit oversize firing pin stop
Tune and Blend Extractor
PARTS:
Cylinder & Slide Hammer and Sear
Greider Precision Trigger
McCormick hammer strut
Ed Brown disconnector
Brown Thumb safety
Wilson extended Mag release
Caspain firing pin stop & Extractor
Wolff recoil, main, and sear springs
EGW barrel bushing
The Finish is Black Parkerizing, which Bob went the extra step on his own dime and had a Black heated finish applied over the parkerizing!
I must say That this is ABSOLUTLY AWESOME...The work that Bob and Chuck have done is FLAWLESS! I just went outside and put a box of 50 through it...Very Accurate with the stock barrel (My Choice), and I could not be happier with the trigger, Crisp Clean break with absolutly zero travel. It breaks Crisp at 3 3/4 Lbs
This is an absolute work of ART. Bob went out of his way and on his own dime to add a few extras, that he thought this gun should have! I tried to send him extra money, but he flat out refused, he just stated "Merry Christmas"! He also played a trick on me...I was waiting for an e-mail from Bob stating that the Parkerizing was completed, and that we would be onto the next stage in the build, when he e-mailed me and wanted to know if I would be home tomorrow as my Gun would be there around noon via UPS He then told me about the few extras he added! WOW....I was floored when he told me all the extras he did! Both Bob and Chuck have worked with me during the whole process! They have been helpful with ideas and there experiences in my build! They have become friends along the way as well!
To both Bob and Chuck I thank you!
To all here at AR15, if you are ever looking for a excellent reliable custom builder, you will never need to look farther than Bob and Chuck Rogers, they are true Artists, and gentleman ! By the way they are not related, but their craftsmanship skills are

Sean

Well that would be me...I'm Irish, and a little slow! My fingers are the size of sausages There is absolutely zero finesse in my body, and I did not have the proper tools, so I hacked it
Link Posted: 1/28/2005 5:17:06 PM EDT
I've seen the work of many of the top pistolsmiths out there, and I've felt for awhile that Chuck Rogers is the best kept secret out there. I had a full house gun built by him in '88, and his workmanship was without par then. He's even better now. Your gun looks fantastic.

Thanks Hobbs,
These pictures really don't do this gun Justice! It is really, just awesome in person!

How did I know when I saw the thread "What A Work Of Art", that it would be a 1911?

Thanks for the pics!

looking very nice.

you were talking about the mag release cut on the grips ealier, right? that is the only spot i can see that is "cut" more than necessary.

danonly...I hate to say it, but the grips are the only thing on this gun that "I Did", and yes that is the only thing that is screwed up...Everything Bob and Chuck did is PERFECT

that might be the sexiest 1911 I have ever seen
Link Posted: 1/29/2005 2:38:11 PM EDT
Here is more on the finish from Bob himself

"The finish is Krylon, you can buy it almost everywhere. No runs, drips or errors...

Actually, it's a thermally cured, high Moly content finish called "Enviro-Tech". Same basic characteristics as Gun Kote and all the rest, but its ability to withstand abrasion is reported to be slightly higher.

Thank you all for the kind words about the work."

Sean, really nice gun. I just got mine back from him and the only thing I didn't have Bob do on my Springfield Operator was a complete dehorning and refinishing. Your gun just looks too beautiful to shoot. Bob is a stand up guy and an excellent pistolsmith along the same lines as Yost and Yam..Stan

deltaopwong,
Yes Bob does excellent work, on par with all of the top names for sure! He id definitely a "Stand up guy". I told Bob when I finally got my hands on it, that it looked to damn perfect to shoot! Don't worry I told him, it will get plenty of use, and carried whenever I leave the house!

That has to be one of the finest looking 1911's I have ever seen.

You rat-bastard! You LUCKY rat-bastard!

Seeing that may have just cost me over $2,000!

since of course, I feel I now have to have one.

Simply awesome, Irish. Congratulations!

That would be the color of envy you see

Well guys it shoots as good as it looks
Over the last few days I have put just over 400 rounds through this baby. I am getting ready to head off to work, but before I leave I wanted to try something. Now this puppy cost a nice chunk of green, so I am not going to completly abuse it But I figured I won't clean it for say 2500 rounds! I just went outside and ran 10 8 round wilson mags, three springfiled, and one Kimber mag as fast as I could shoot and load them. Not a Hicup....The target, well it's dead...but it looks like I was shooting buckshot
Now off to work

You know what, screw the gun (after all it's just another 1911 ) but what I'm jealous of is the fact that you can just go out you back door and shoot when ever you feel like! That's worth more than 100 custom 1911's (or at least 50 considering local real estate prices )

And to think you have both. Very nice!
Link Posted: 2/1/2005 9:23:02 AM EDT
Wow!
Absolutely one of the nicest 1911s I've seen.
Everything is just Right!
Link Posted: 2/1/2005 3:18:44 PM EDT
While I’m not a fan of light rails on handguns, I’ve got to say that’s a great looking blaster!

Good looking cosmetics with a nice mag-well, lanyard loop, clean front strap work, and a well fit grip safety. Enjoy it!!!
Link Posted: 2/1/2005 4:50:16 PM EDT
Wow. Stunning.

It's a Supermodel 1911 in every sense of the phrase.

Kimber Warrior who?
Link Posted: 2/7/2005 10:13:11 AM EDT
200 more rounds and counting

That's one awesome 1911! I love the Golf ball machining on the front strap to match the Gunner Grips!

Last I heard Chuck had quite a waiting list for custom work. Have things slowed down any, how long did it take to get your pistole done?

Link Posted: 2/7/2005 10:44:42 AM EDT
Hey Yojimbo,
Chuck Lowered the ejection port, machined the rear sight, did the Lanyard loop on the Mainspring housing and the golf balling! He had it for a little over two weeks, give or take a few days. Then Bob Rodgers had it for just around two months for the rest of the work.
It is super nice and shoots like a dream

Sean
Link Posted: 2/7/2005 10:50:26 AM EDT
After I saw this I sent my CQB off the Chuck for the light rail and lanyard loop. After seeing how good it came out on your gun it made the decision easy. Those were the only 2 things that I wished my Wilson had but I was reluctant to send it out until your post. Thanks!!!
