Archived [ARCHIVED THREAD] - InterChangable Mags?

My son lives near the U.S.- Mexico border. He has a S&W  M&P compact as one of his house guns. It came with a couple 12 round mags. I want to get him a couple more but I'm wondering if his compact can use 17 rounders reliably?
