Hey All,

I just finished installing new sights on my Kimber Series II. This is my "Fun Gun" which goes with me to the range everytrip. I nicked the barrel and wanted some feedback if it was worth it or if I should have had a professional install them for me. Also does such a blemish warrant refinishing the slide.

The nick in the slide wil not affect function one bit.  If it really bugs you, fix as advised.  Refinishing a slide because of a nick seems excessive for a fun-gun.  Now, if it were a BBQ gun.............

Next time use a brass punch or a sight pusher tool.

Aren't even the 'blue' Kimbers stainless?  If so, cold blue ain't gonna do it.

Chuck, you're killin' me!  At least that wasn't a Colt.

Beat it till it fits -- the dovetail will cut its own way into the slide.  I especially like the way the rear sight forms a little weather shelter over the hammer.   Don't want your hammer gettin' rained on, dontcha know.

If your too cheap for cold blue, one word:

SHARPIE

Yeah I know, its not aluminum, but he did say it was a fun gun only

A friend of mine has offered to fix the blemish. Ill post new picks of the repair when its completed. On another note anybody know if a caspian slide will fit a springfield GI frame?

It really wasn't my intention to hijack this thread.
Sorry Fist.
Anyway a guy on another forum complained his Nork was not shooting to point of aim. Said he had a set of tritium adjustable sights recently installed. I offered to install a taller front sight for him as the gun was shooting high. Well the pics above show what his real problem was.http://users.commspeed.net/rogersp1/Dads%20Lazarus%20sized/laz9.JPG

The cold bluing revealed a small gold line around the 'dutchman' I silver soldered in.
A good hot blue would have minimalized it.

Definately a silk purse out of a sow's ear, Chuck.

I hope that guy didn't pay to have those sights installed originally.
