All the major manufactures have shat out the good and the bad.  It really depends on your budget.

I "bet" on Colt and Kimber.

In your opinion what 1911 .45 is the best?

I buy Colts only but your question doesn't have just one answer.

I would have to agree with Eddien1984 on this. All of the makers of .45's have had some problems with them at one time or another. In addition to your budget, I think another major consideration would be what you are planning to do with it? Is it going to be a CCW piece, are you going to compete with it or will it be just a casual shooter. For me, this would make a difference between a Kimber race gun or a Springfield Armory G.I. model. It seems that every company that makes firearms is offering a variant of the Colt .45acp, but I don't think you can go wrong with a Colt, Kimber or Springfield Armory pistol.

You get what you pay for.  Buy the best you can afford.

Springfield Armory sells more 1911s than the others, I bet there's a reason for that. Of course, I'm biased with owning four of them.

I have shot a variety of 1911s over the years, and while I haven't shot them all, there are only two brands that haven't disappointed me: Remingtom Rand, and Wilson Combat.

For the next two weeks, read this forum, plus 10-8forums.com, plus m1911.org, and 1911forum.com.  Read absolutely everything.  Then add louderthanwords.com.

If you still need to ask, then take a reading comprehension course.

I own Springfields, (TRP, Ultra Compact, and a Mil-spec.) I have shot Kimbers,Colts and other old name guns. Not long ago Taruas came out with there PT-1911. For the money its a good buy @ $450-500. But it's not a Kimber,Springfield or a Colt. Buy what you can afford.

The best 1911 is the one that fits your budget and goes BANG every time.

My Springfield Mil-Spec fits that description 100% for me.

I currently own 4 1911s. Two of which are Springfields. I have owned 5 Springfields total. One was sold to cover a dire finacial need, one was stolen, and one was given to my brother. Of these 5, I have yet to have one that wasn't as reliable as a rock and at least combat accurate. If I were in need or desire of another 1911, a new Springfield would be my choice.

Colt seems to be very consistant in how well their guns are made. Few real issues, and out of the box the 1991 is one of the most reliable out there(they really got it right with that one). Not to mention it is %100 American made using quality parts

WHAT?!?!?

I have Kimbers and a Dan Wesson

I think the Dan Wesson is built better than The Kimbers.  I do love all of them!

Really hard to say what is best, but I guess you couldn't go wrong with the full on custom build!  Someday, I hope.

Thanks,
