If you could have only one .357 revolver would you choose the Colt Python or the Smith & Wesson Model 27?

Probably the 27.

27, preferably 4" but 6" is cool too.

Not listed as one of your options, but my Dan Wesson is good in 2 1/2", 4", 6", etc, all in one gun

I'd take both for the win.  But seriously, probably the Smith.  Although, there is nothing wrong with a Colt.

Neither.. If I could only have a .357 revolver, I would choose the Taurus 608. Capacity of 8 rounds, recoil reducing itegral compensator, accurate as hell, and heavy duty enough to use as a metal club if I'm out of ammo..

Interesting question, and while not a Colt ot a Smith, it'd still be my first choice.. It's affordable, reliable, accurate, and capacity of 8 rounds rule..

Dan Wesson.  Barrel length up to you, I prefer a 4" but have a 2.5, 4, 6, 8"

Model 19, Combat Magnum.

The S&W because it is more reliable and more common if you need parts.

Between those 2 - the 27. The Python is not quite as robust - although unless you really shot it hard you'd never notice.

And just think, after the TEOTWAWKI, S&W customer support will go into the shitter, and Taurus's will be every bit as good as it is right now!

That would be my choice as well even though the 3.5 incher would be calling me too.

I would go with the Model 27, but I would prefer the 5" 627PC. 5" stainless 8 shot N frame.

Although not included, the Ruger GP-100 sould also be considered. I prefer the 4".

Ruger GP 100-rugged as a tank. Easy to field strip. It too can be used as a club if the need arises.

Can also (and should) be used for a boat anchor.  Comparing a Ruger GP100 to a Python or S&W Model 27 is full of fail
