I carried a 439 like that on duty in the late 80's, great pistol and very easy to shoot.  My Department transitioned to 3 rd generation 5904/6904 in 1990 and I couldn't afford to buy mine back.  I found a used one last year for a very good price.  The finish is a litlle rough but I wanted a shooter.   The Smith pistols are classics as far as I'm concerned.  I still have my 39-2, 439 and 5904.

Can't argue with that. I have a really clean 39-2 that's in the carry rotation on occasion.  Friend of mine wants it in the worst way.

A new 39-2 was my second handgun.  Still have it 40+ years later.

My dad bought one of those when I was like 10 years old.  It was the first 9mm hand gun in the house and the first semi auto in the house.  I can still remember being enamored by the sound of the slide being racked.  I think it was the very first "new gun" that I can remember him brining home.

My dad told me the pawn shop owner tried to talk him into a Beretta 92, but my dad had never heard of Beretta (I think this was before the military picked up the  Beretta as a service pistol).  We have bought and traded many guns since then, but that 39-2 still is in the safe.  I hope he gives it to me when he is ready....I'm not really interested in any other guns and it brings back incredible memories of the house we grew up in.  Thanks for posting this!
