Last week I asked my freind (local pusher) to order me a new Model 19 Gen 4. Over the last several days I have done alot of research on the Gen 4 problems and fixes. I have carried a Glock for nearly 20 years. 12 years with Gen 2 and Gen 3 Model 21's on duty. I had to ask myself.......what does the Gen 4 offer that my current models dont? I think the new oversize mag release is a bad idea on a carry gun. The current grip fits my hand and is engrained in my muscle memory. I do like the new grip stippleing on Gen 4's. The Gen 3 guide rod system has proven itself reliable.

Well I talked myself into canceling the Gen 4 and I purchased a used Gen 3 model 19 out of the pistol display case. It only has 50 rounds fired through her, previously owned by a good freind of mine. Fired case envelope marked 2006. Im happy and have peace of mind.

in the end, that's all that matters, right?

i do think a lot of the Gen4 issues have been blown up... meaning, i think the issues that have surfaced have been overly scrutinized. the Gen4 is a new design and people are obviously watching closely, so i think that when problems do come up, they are spread all over the internet, giving the illusions that the Gen4 is a fail. i think most of these "issues" with the Gen4 design have already been worked out. personally, i'm not crazy about the Gen4... but, that being said, i also do believe that the Gen4 does have its place.

The Gen4 is why I finally bought a Glock.  The grip never felt right and it was awkward to shoot.  M&P's always felt good to shoot but I think the G19 has a better balance to it.

I have 2 3rd Gen Compacts(19 & 23) and 1 19Gen4, I much prefer the Gen 4.

The grip is so much nicer and mine has proven to be just as reliable as the Gen 3's.

Don't believe everything you read on the internet.

I think the problems with Gen 4's is very real. I have heard through my LE circles that the Wyoming Highway Patrol tested the Model 22 and 23 Gen 4's to replace there Gen 3's and have opted for Smith M&P's. They just swithed to Glocks in 2004 or 2005. If you believe this poll.........Glock Gen 4 Problems Poll  Nearly 1/3 of 9mm owners have had some kind of reliability issues with their new Gen 4.

Keep the Gen 3 and stipple the grip yourself.  Several people here have done it and posted very good results.

I've had a Gen3 Glock 19 for years now as my CCW, but am a lefty, was never that thrilled with the large grip size, and the grip finish didn't inspire much confidence in me to keep a solid hold of the weapon at all times. The Gen4 fixed all of these issues for me and is my new CCW, while the Gen3 has been relegated to nightstand duty with a light attached. I'm definitely one happy camper now!

My local FFL, who is a Glock armourer, and a good friend told me that Glock has really worked hard at addressing and fixing the problems associated with the Gen 4s. I feel perfectly confortable with carrying one.

I had a GEN4 and scrapped it for 3 GEN3s..... another year down the road I will buy another GEN4. I am confident GLOCK will work it all out but until then no can do! I was sorely disappointed in the GEN4 performance... but I loved the "feel" of it

Do like I did and buy a Gen 3.5- the ones with RTF but no interchangeable backstraps and with the old recoil system.I have several of them and ran them at a class this last fall- about 400 rounds apiece with no issues whatsoever.

I've considered getting a Gen4, but really don't see the advantages. Like you I am going to stick with 2s & 3s.

I'm very glad Glock is keeping the gen 3's. I like the Gen4's but not quite enough to get one. Recently, I held a Gen4 G17 at a gun shop and it did feel nice. I like the grip and the new mag release, but wish they could have just kept the old recoil system. I'll probably end up with one eventually. Congrats on the new gun!

I recieved a bunch of them this summer(Gen 4 G22) I  never had a problem with the Gen3.  I have a few of them with over 7,000rds through them they run good(New Gen4 G22).  I still carry a Gen3 off duty new grip doesnt  matter that much to me.  The new style grip does help with getting some people qualified.  I personally have not had a issue yet with any of mine, I hope it stays that way.
