Nope, several hundred rounds through my XD .40 and no problems at all. As for recoil, I find it quite managable.

no kidding, I'm by no means a huge fan of the croation sensation but this sounds like the work of someone who has some bad and dangerous shooting habits |

my bet is that the shooter is wrapping the support hand thumb over the back of the shooting thumb so that the two thumbs form an "x", like when you fold your hands to pray, interlocking the fingers. Lots of "revolver" people have this bad habit, 'cause with a revolver it does not matter. But with an auto, the slide will come back and cut your stuck up thumb. We had a stack o' bandaids at the shooting range I worked at for the "auto virgins" that popped their cherry.
The solution is to bring the support hand themb down along the shooting hand themb so they point in the same direction. I place my support hand thumb pad over the thumbnail of my shooting thumb to lock the grip tight |

I know exactly what you are talking about MRW, I was at the range next to a guy who had rented a revolver and wanted to try my Glock 23. Had to tap him on the shoulder before he pulled the trigger, he was about ready to leave a peice of his thumb and take home a painful lesson.

 Croation Sensation. I like that.Having owned an XD40 and an XD9 I've never had that problem either. With a normal thumbs-forward grip you should be well clear. |

wow, nothing like that has ever happened to me. Always had great things to say about the XD, you get a great pistol for very little. I agree with everyone else, training issue......

Are you sure you don't actually have a Glock 23 instead? I had a whole lot more problem with the way the Glock recoiled than the XD.

I hate your XD too. Send it to me and I'll teach it a lesson for you.
Ive never had a problem with recoil on either one. My G23 is as smooth as a fresh shaved whisker bisquit. |

I will try to post a pic of my grip. I am a left handed shooter but I dont think that should matter. I dont have this problem with any other handgun. My Glock 17 and SA .45 both very comfortable to shoot. While I dont shoot a lot I am pretty accurate with those other 2 handguns.

My daughter has been shooting my XD for a year, probably 1000 rounds through it. She was 16 when she started shooting it.
Not one scrape, not one malfunction and she has not complained of the recoil at all. She loves the XD40. My son is skinny as hell and he has no problems with it. I have short fingers and big palms and have no problems with it either. Are you putting undue upward pressure on the grip safety, thus slipping your thumb up next to the back of the slide? It only takes placing the handgun in a shooting grip to disengage the grip safety. Try having your thumb and index finger on the same plane when you pick up the pistol and don't adjust upward due to he grip safety. |

I did try it, didnt like it. worked fine but the excessive muzzle flip and the long trigger reset just turned me off of that one. |

If the top of your thumb is getting nailed by the slide........you're holding it wrong. How are you holding the thing?
I have an XD-40 and I love it. I can shoot it all day with no problems at all. I did let a friend shoot it once, and he used the "thumb behind slide tactical grip" .....it took a big shunk out of the top of his thumb also.
