[ARCHIVED THREAD] - I had my 1911 Nickel Boron coated *Pics*

I just got it back today.

I still need to find a mag release and slide stop that will work in stainless. There are a few spots that I'll need to hand polish a little more but overall I am happy with the end results. The internal parts and barrel along with everything you see was coated.

I installed the EGW bushing and guide rod plug today.

Its being sent out in 2 weeks have Trijicon night sights installed.

This, plus cost.

Also, I've got an engineering diagram somewhere here that details that the RIA "novak" style cuts actually have a few minor fit differences; may want to be sure that the place you're sending it to for NS can take care of that.

I really like it! Your post helped me decide which coating to use to "highlight" some parts on my new 1911.
The pricing isnt bad either, $50 to do the slid stop, safety levers, grip safety, etc- and it looks much more durable than something like the paint on stuff.

how many rounds down the barrel before treatment? I always wondered how they prep used barrels prior to ionbond or NIB

I dont think Ionbond will do the interior of a barrel but not 100%

Only trace amounts of coating get inside the barrel, it isn't like chrome lining a barrel. The coating is a vapor and doesn't go in voids well because it is electrically charged, it finds something to stick to before it can go very far into a barrel. It doesn't affect accuracy and we do fancy one hole shooting rifles all the time.

nice gun and well done I love the finish....I hear different theories on nickel boron and lube/no lube.....can you in fact run 100% dry...... any feedback yet OP?

I am guessing that the short length of the barrel and the relatively large bore let more vapors in than you would normally find.

OP, how has the gun run?

Well the pistol itself only had around 50 rounds through it before I sent it out. When I initially called them, WMD did mention that they will not coat the interior of the barrel but coated everything else.

I ran 200 rounds through it dry 2 weeks ago and it performed flawlessly.
