VZ GRIPS.

That narrows it down to 1,000!
Link Posted: 11/8/2013 5:13:01 PM EST

They are like running shoes. Look around for some that look good to you, then try to hold a pistol with them on.
The biggest differences I can see are the looks and the texture. Some have very aggressive texturing and some are so smooth I wonder if they would slip when gripped.

I decide CC or bedside/range. Makes it easier/

All but two of my 1911's have Navidrex thin grips.
Those were all put on years ago, if I were to do it again VZ grips would be the choice.
Link Posted: 11/8/2013 6:16:07 PM EST
My 1911-A1 GI has a nice set of RAASCO maroon canvas micartas on it. Slick-sided but not slippery, plus they look a lot better than the 'US' emblazoned stock Springfield grips.

I love my VZ slim grips on my Springfield Champion.
Link Posted: 11/8/2013 7:47:21 PM EST
Once you've used the best, none of the frilly sissy grips are gonna satisfy.

Get a new set of Pachmayrs for the NH.

Esmeralda 1911 grips.

You won't be disappointed.

I just spent 30 minutes on her website. Those are some beautiful grips!

Esmeralda's pistol grips

You can thank me later.

I prefer double diamond, classic checkered walnut or rosewood grips.
Link Posted: 11/9/2013 1:26:20 AM EST
VZGrips, have a set of marine digicamo Aliens on my TRP. Besy grip you can get for any type of tac shooting, a little rough for ccw though.

Wow.
After looking at her website, I'm about ready to buy a new handgun just to get a set of her Celtic checkered grips. Beautiful! And surprisingly inexpensive.

Got these hogues for $25 shipped off the ee

Aint into bling

Hell I changed my NHC from VZ Aliens to Pacs for EDC :-)

You really can't go wrong with VA or Larry Davidson. Either will serve you well

No bling here. Old beat-up second hand Colt grips work fine.
If I bought new grips I'd have to refinish the whole gun to match. That's not going to happen anytime soon.

I like the old school double diamond checkered grips. These are in rosewood done by Herrett's on my Les Baer.
These are very cheap compared to custom grips but If I had the extra bucks I'd definitely go with Esmeralda's Grips.

Link Posted: 11/9/2013 8:56:13 AM EST
Many buy multiple sets of grips to switch out as mood changes. Others, seeing all of these extra grips laying around, buy more 1911s to mount them to.

I hate to say this, but I think I paid much less than that brand new from Midway. I'd have to double check but it seems to me it was more like 15 w/o shipping.

I forgot to hit quote, sorry about that. See below.

I'm partial to Raasco. All four of my 1911's wear their grips.
Link Posted: 11/10/2013 6:01:57 AM EST
Like lays chips "you can't just have one set"

I am partial to old school , quality wood double diamond grips , but I have a set of VZ recon slants in predator green that have not left my colt in nearly a year
I also have a nice set of AlumaGrips that give a great feel
Link Posted: 11/10/2013 6:32:19 AM EST
I like the older 1911 GI style and looks
so I opt for the orig colt grips or coltwood.

But now that I have a NH, I want to try some new types.

There are only a few types of grips that have 'class'. The rest of them are junk, so leaves you only with about a dozen types to chose from, with usually about a dozen choices within each type.

I just joined this group. Their grips are just amazing going to put them on most of my 1911s eventually.

My "retro" blued guns will keep wood stocks though. Either Colt or Esmeralda.
