15 or 20.  Most are old school 7 rounders.  Have a few Wilson 47Ds.

What brand of mags do you prefer?

Three. I need more.

Are there any reliable GI type mags? I'm thinking 7 round blued (or otherwise dark) mags with flush floorplates. I prefer those to ones with bumper pads.

Just ordered 20 from Ammoman.com...have another 10 or so; one Colt commercial, 2 WWII USGI, one post war USGI, 4 MecGar 7 rounders, 3 Mecgr 8 rounders..one Wilson 47D...

I'm going to go back to the plain-jane USGI 7 rounders for my carry use, though. (Not that I carry yet, but I will soon enough). Proper follower design, proper spring design, etc.

Yep..what I figure I'd do is carry the Wilson (or a Mecgar 8 rounder) in the weapon with SXT's or another good HP defensive load, and the two spares would be ball.

Why ball you ask?

Because if I ever find myself in a situation where I need more than a magazine, whatever I'll be shooting at by that point will be behind some cover...and I wanna punch through it as much as a .45 can

But, that's just me, and I'm sure there are other schools of thought on the subject...

Besides for range/practice mags, you certainly can't go wrong with a pile of old USGI's.

I had to go count, It appears that I've got 16 here and two that I loaned to someone else, but I've also got five more 10 rounders coming.

Let's see .

There are 6 , 47D's on my desk and One in each pistol .
Two spares in a mag holder . Then there are the 5 CM
Pro-mag 8 rounders I bought to try . Of course I have
Four 10 round Gangsta mags just because  . Oh and the
50 cal ammo can full of 7-8 round mags that I don't trust 100% .

So that 6 + 4 + 2 + 5 + 4 + a bunch = I need some more

60 or 70, maybe more, I got out of the service just as they were going to the Beretta, they were tossing out stuff right and left, I got about 20 or 25 nice GI mags at that time, then over the years they just added up, I don't use any but USGI, Wilsons, or the Factory Colts usually made by Mecgar, good mags all. I do not buy any USGI "new" ones at shows, those are rejects or fakes. [well I did once just to see, waste of 5 bucks]

Apparently I ordered 30, not 20

They're...interesting mags! Not like old WWII USGI mags.

Unfortunatly I can't find photos of different 1911 mags on Google to save my life...but basically, they look like Colt Commercial mags (same feed lips; straight up in the front, and rolled over in the back)) except with a USGI follower. So, this should alleviate some of the HP feeding issues. I guess newer contract 1911 mags, they updated from the original design. It does have the ASSY number stamped on the welded bottom floorplate.

I have not had a chance to function-test them, though I did load 'em all for just such an event.

I have Eleven 1911s chambered in .45ACP. I'm actually in the Group Buy over in the EE for 10 more 47Ds, five of which are for a friend. Whenever I can pick them up new for about $20 each I'll buy at least a few.

I have six Wilsons and a box of cheap mags I got with guns and never use. I have been meaning to buy more good mags, but haven't gotten around to it. 6 is more than I usually have on myself (comes in handy at the range or at classes).
