I will be buying my first carry gun soon and I am trying to decide on ammunition. When I read about the TAP round and how they use powder that "reduces muzzle flash" I became intrigued. Since most of the time I will be carryijg the the next couple of years will be at night I feel this would be beneficial. My question: Has anyone out there shot this stuff at night and are their claims about muzzle flash true? I was only able to find one article online about it and it was fairly old and didnt really talk about this.

Im not asking about what ammo I should carry, I want to know specifically about the .45 ACP 230 gr. TAP round.

Just so you know, almost all defensive ammo uses low flash charges. I don't know how the TAP ammo performs though

Ive never seen any other ammunition advertised as having a reduced muzzle flash at night. Does make a lot of sense though.

I personally prefer TAP over all the other brands. There are alot of good manufactuers out there and some of them are no better than the other, including TAP but my guns just seem to really like TAP and I like all of the data about it. I use TAP 9mm 147gr CQ (red box) in my G19 and I use TAP 75gr .223 in my AR (red box). I am extremely confident that if I do what I need to do that my ammo (TAP) will do it's part

I just purchased a few boxes to try in my .45. Sportsmans Guide has it for $10.90 a box for Club Members. Use one of their coupons they offer and save yourself a little extra. Best price I found.

As far as reduced flash propellants.....hornady's new Tap for Personal Defense in the black box is horrible. The old red box was alot better but still was not as low as Winchesters Ranger. The new TAP looks like the fourth of July and does severely hinder your night sight for follow up target aqusition. If the manufacturer says low flash..........do not take their word for it. Go out and see for yourself. Don't just do it in low light.....do it in no light.

I'm using the TAP black box in all my CCW and my bedside table guns right now. Here is some chronograph data on the Hornady TAP: red box vs black box. The black box a little faster.
