Just got a Natchez catalogue today and saw them in there. I looked on midway and they have them too. Looks like they moved the holes to see how many rounds are in the mag from the side to the back. I guess my 3 15 rounders are worthless now and I need to get soem of these new 16 rd. mags.

Did they make the follower thinner or what?

They started making 16rd mags last year when Mec-Gar became their mag vendor.

I thought it happened after the sunset, when you could get 12rd .40 mags.

The first mags out after the sunset were 15rd.

First ones out came with the HS2000, but not here because of the ban.

What happens when you load 9mm rounds into a .40 mag?

You can apparently get 17 rounds of 9mm into a 12 round .40 mag.  You do have to modify the feed lips a bit so that the 9mm will feed properly (I assume just bending them inward to approximate the 9mm mag lips.), but you will get yourself a 17 round 9mm mag.

I want to try it, even though I'd only be gaining one round of capacity, and potentially mucking up a twenty two dollar mag.

The slide will lock back with one round left in the mag.

LOL, well that completley defeats the purpose of 17rnd mag doesn't it?!

Bend the lips of the mag inward (towards each other) a little bit and it will stop doing that.  I had the same problem and that solved it.

I had a different problem, my slide wouldn't lock back after firing the last round.

All I've ever had to do was press the lips gently together. I didn't need any tools. I just set one side flat on a bench, and pressed with my hand.

Anyway, the point was that to change the mag capacity for the XD all that really needs to be done is to change the size of the reinforcement on the sides. It's not that hard to squeeze and extra round in there. Just a decision by the manufacturer.
This of course is an oversimplification. There may be tooling costs involved.

So when exactly did SA start shipping new XD9s with 16 rounders. I got my bi-tone a year ago and it came with 15 rd. mags. And for those of yuo saying the mags cost $22- Midway has the 16 rounders for $18. I kinda want to get some of those, but funds are a little short.

It looks like they're still selling 15 rd. mags- for the subcompact with the extension sleeve included.

My subcompact that I just bought came with a 16rd clip.
