Well, with all the polished aluminum items available for vehicles I guess the polishing part isn't a problem, but can aluminum take the hot blue?

Absolutely NOT.

With aluminum you either have to have it anodized, or coated with something like the polymer "paint" type finishes.

If you don't coat it with something, the bare aluminum will corrode.
This looks like a hard, white crusty substance and is aluminum oxide.  The same basic substance sharpening and grinding stones are made of.
