I have pretty much every gun that I would actually ever "need".  It's not a huge collection, but it gets the job done.

Here is my list....I can pretty much do anything I need to with these guns, target shooting, hunting, trap/skeet, home defense...you name it, and I have a gun to do it.

Iver Johnson .22 rifle
Mossy 500 12ga
Stainless Ruger M77 MarkII in 7mmRM
Kel-Tec P3AT
Springfield XD-40 5" "Tactical"
Oly K3B Mil-4 AR-15

With these guns...I pretty much can do anything I really "need" to.

So here is my problem. I'm getting some money back from taxes, and I would like to get my first 1911.  I've been looking at the Taurus 1911's, and have heard nothing but good reviews on them.   I'm one of those guys that like to justify things.......

.....  so why do I "need" a 1911?  What can it do that my currect guns can't?

Thanks for the help with my delima

Buy early, Buy often...

But seriously, once you get your first 1911, you'll already be planning the purchase of your second.

Unleash a .45 bullet with exceptional accuracy, comfort, reliability, safety.

There is no reason NOT to buy one. That is your reason.

If you could only have one gun.  It would probably be a 1911 in .45.
Stopping power, portability, accuracy, reliability, available parts and ammo.
The list could go on forever.

Buy a good one, not a cheap pot metal 1911 version of a Hi-Point.

When you do, you'll wonder why you ever bothered with anything else.

I'm assuming that you are talking about the Taurus 1911.  I put a post up a few weeks ago about that gun, and I got tons of replys back saying that it was a great gun.....as good if not better than the Springfield Mil-Spec.  Some even said that Taurus makes many of the parts for Springfield.

I guess I would understand if several people gave bad reviews.....but they have all been great.

Please give me some info on how you came to that conclusion.  Thanks

I have heard nothing but good about the Taurus. Haven't handled one though.

I was specifically referring to the Rock Island and others of its ilk.

I was in the same boat when I first logged on here.  One day I stumbled into the 1911 section.  They grew on me, but were still way down a long wish list.  Then I came across one on a deal I couldnt refuse, and after one trip to the range I am ready to collect as many as I can.

In a nutshell - very customizable and feel like no other pistol I have fired.  Smooth, powerful and very balanced.

Get one, you wont regret it.

I have "a large but classified number" of 1911s.  I really like my Rock Island box stock as much as many of the higher dollar 1911s.

It is great gun for a first time shooter, and the parts are all GI interchangeable if you want to get into customizing.

I'm a stickler for reliablity and durablity, and with a bunch of rounds down the pipe, my Rock Island GI .45 has never choked or bobbled once and shows zero appreciable wear.

It may not be expensive, but it sure isn't built "cheap"!!

Just get a Springer Loaded and be done with it (till you next one, that is).

You are an American, aren't you?  Well, you're not a real American until you own a .45.  It's called the Yankee fist for a reason, you know.

In 1961 and 62 our Boy Scout troop consisted of kids from military housing in Norfolk, Va.  Our sponsors were a local Marine attachment.  A few times a year they would arrange for us Scouts to use the ranges on the base to teach shooting, a very important part of being a Scout in those days.  On the pistol range we were introduced to the Ace .22, 38 revolvers and 1911A1's.  My military pistols were the same 1911A1's that were in service when I was a Scout.  After 45 years I can't imagine not having a 1911.

I have about a dozen handguns not a huge collection but it too gets the job done..
But only after the last handgun I purchased, a Springer Loaded 1911. I now realize that the all the handguns purchased before it, were in search of it. Crap if I would have just got the 1911 first I could have saved a bunch of coin! With this said I like all of them all but the 1911 is the king. It just fits my hand so well, I want more of them.

One lesson that I have learned in life. If something stands the test of time there is a good reason for it. They haven't been making 1911's for almost a 100 years because they suck...

Well.....I think I've decided on getting the Taurus.  Does anyone know what standard 1911 parts will and will not interchange on them?   What parts on that gun are specials just for that gun?

Any info would be great!

thanks

I own a Springfield Fully Loaded and it is fantastic.  I, too, am intrigued by the Taurus 1911. I don't know about it's inter-changability with other 1911 parts. Get one and let us know how it does for you.
Hell, for the price, you can't go wrong! Good shooting!

I have never felt so alone in my life as I do now after reading this thread. I do not have a 1911. I am currently working on my first pistol purchase which I was planning to be a Springfield Armory XD....though now I wonder if I should start with the classic "Test of Time" weapon.

Get the one that works best for you. 1911's are just one of many choices. Try as many as you can, don't buy any of them based on someone else's prejudices. I personally love my G21. I know many complain about the size of it. It fits me great. I'm not really that impressed with 1911's. They sure are fun to tinker with.

All gun owners should have at least one M1911 pistol, regardless of manufacturer; so has the Apostole John (Moses Browning) has set forth.

That and a Garand, a Springfield, a wheelgun, a shotgun, an AR, and AK...

and a Glock fotay for the Profussionals.

I thought I was the last hold out when it came to buying a 1911.

I bought one and like it.  Now you need one.

Convinced yet?

The 1911 is the greatest looking pistol out there, not to mention it's storied history and proven track record as an accurate and efficient man killer. I LOVE 1911's and the only reason that I have a Glock is because I wanted something to shoot cheap 9mm ammo (I think a Glock is the best choice behind a 1911. Excellent pistol). My 1911 is a World War I vet made in 1917, and it still runs like a spotted ape when it goes to the range, and I will probably make a Kimber the next thing on my list. DO IT DO IT !!

Oh yeah, If you handload and use cast bullets you can load .45 for 85-90 bucks per 1000 instead of paying a quarter a pop from Wal-Mart or wherever.
