I don't know about any "promises" but the government did, in fact, put out a proposal for a bid on pretty much replacing the 9mm M9 with .45 pistols...something like several hundred thousand if I recall correctly.
That proposal has since been killed and the decision made to stay with the M9 for most troops as I understand it, but I have no "proof" that such is the case. There apparently IS still a request for a bid / test for a .45acp pistol for Spec. Ops. troops which would account for about 50,000 or fewer handguns, and this one is being entered by Beretta, Sig, H&K and maybe S&W...again, so far as I know...none of them have called me and given me the latest news!

So, your info sounds like typical gunshop rumor after several guys read parts of what is really happening
