Finally the rumors that been around since the Mark 23 first came out have come true.  HK announced that the Mark 23 along with the SL-8 are being discontinued.
Maybe they will do a last of 500 run???

Mark 23 =

SL8 =

They should do a run of VP-70s to make up for the fact that they are dropping the Mark 23

I'd be very curious to know production numbers on the Mk 23.  I doubt it was more than a few thousand.  That was always a very limited niche market.

God I hope this means they have plans for a G36.  I know it doesn't... but I will continue to hope.

HK ran between 1000 and 1500 a year, each year over their production life time.  My two were AB (01) date coded and were in the 8000 and 9000 range which corresponds perfectly to roughly a thousand a year.

If you want a Mark 23 and are near Birmingham, I just had to pass on a brand new one at Mark's Outdoors for $1650...

I agree that's a lot to pay for a pistol but it is a good price for THAT pistol.  Personally, I would rather go with the tactical which they had as well but I can't remember how much it was.  They had a counter full of USP fullsize and compacts as well as the HK45c...all at or near wholesale pricing.

Why, do you have to do some room clearing in a squirrel nest or two?

It's funny.  I actually thought about you and your recent purchase when I saw all the HKs.  If I remember correctly the HK45 wasn't that great of a deal...something like $889 or maybe $839.  I can't remember for sure.  I think they had about three of them.

At about $.50 per round I would rather not fuck with 4.6 x 30mm in what would be essentially a range toy..

I hear that John Travolta bought the last MK 23.......

Damn, if you gents like guns....you might want to rent From Paris with Love.  Travolta does some serious work with a MK23 and KAC can and the footage containing the mk23 is FANTASTIC.

So does this mean that they might let someone make licensed G36 clones a la MSAR and the AUG? Would be cool.
