Hey there,

I am having a barrel cleaning issue. I have a uspc40. Ive shot probably about 8000 rounds through it in about 4 years of ownership. Within the last few cleans i am having a hard time removing all the fouling from the barrel along the rifling*.(might not be the right terminology) Also the feed ramp is slightly discolored on the R side of the ramp. Does anyone have any suggestion on how to better clean the barrel? Any solutions you would recommend?

I am currently cleaning it with hoppes solution and following it up with hoppes gun oil.

soak the barrel in hoppes overnite and see how that works.

My feed ramp seems to build up on the right side as well. I wonder what that's all about? Anyway, last night as I was cleaning it, I used a bore brush to clean off the caked on crud on the ramp. Worked fine. I wonder if someone will tell me that's a bad thing to do though.

yea i tried using a bore brush without much success on mine. I am going a gun show on friday, i am going to try and pick up some new brushes etc..

never had problems cleaning my 4 HK's. try using a brand new bronze/phosphor brush at the right caliber. You may want to try snake bore, run it through after you're done shooting.

I also used Mpro7. combined with snake bore, it really did clean the lead out! i tried hoppes 9. it doesn't do shit.

thanks for the tips, i am planning on picking up the mpro7 on friday, ive heard good things about it. plus i am sick of getting high off the hoppes fumes.....

Might consider the electronic bore cleaner that's out now? I can't remember the name out, Outers Foul Out or something?????

Also, don't use a bristle type bore brush, use the new style tornado type. It works 100 times better.

Well, ive soaked the barrel in hoppes for a few hours. It removed some of the fouling but not all of it. hinking.gif
thanks. Im going to get some mpro7 as well as tornado brushes on friday. If i had 140 bucks id order that electric bore cleaner. looks pretty cool.

What color are the patches coming out? If grey to black it's just carbon and the foul out won't do anything. Just keep scrubbing. If it's green/blue, it's copper and you need to use some copper solvent, or the Foul Out. I'm assuming that you haven't been shooting lead. If you have, then you need to use a mechanical or electronic means to remove it. The Tornado brushes grab and pull out the lead usually, and the Foul Out removes it as well.

the fouling has been grey to black, ive pretty much got the barrel cleaned at this point with most of the fouling gone. I have been shooting winchester white box through it, which i am sure is not the cleanest ammo

Old toothbrushes have worked well enough for me. I love that feed ramp shine

Absolutely! Lots more surface contact to the bore over the bristle type.

You need two solvents:

Shooter's choice powder solvent

Sweet's 7.62

Run em both through. Rinse and repeat. That sweet's will eat up copper like you wouldn't believe.

A little JB Bore Paste never hurt things either. If you really need to go hardcore, get some brake cleaner (seriously.)

With this combination, you will clean your barrel.

Yeah, but I'd try Sweet's 7.62 first. And be sure to keep the room well ventilated...that stuff is potent. You could probably get a good buzz if you spent much time using it.
