Which One Should I Get And Why? Tell Me Which One You Like From Testing/holding/using. I Have heard that the XD's have a shitty finish, If I got an XD should I get the stainless and have a new coating put on it? Any Help would be greatly appreciated.

Getting ready to buy the .45 ACP.  I have the XD9 and getting ready to pick up my new XD40 sub compact today.   I don't have any problems with the finish on mine.  Looks as good as the day I bought it 18 months ago.  No safe queen!  If I did I would just have the slide Dura Coated for $45.00 including shipping back to you.   I wouldn't get rid on mine!   As you can tell... I likes them

To be honest, you need to at least hold both. There is a big difference in size. I personally cannot hold the XDs well as the grip contour and such is just not suited to my XL hands. The USP series though fits just about right.

I have shot both, and feel they're both good guns.  I personally prefer the USP though.  Feels better in my hand, and I shoot it much better as well.  When I picked up the XD for the first time and started tinkering with it, the first thing that came to mind was "cheap".  However, it still performed just as most handguns do at the range...it worked.

I would be concerned with the XD's quality control.
Had and HK, liked it but seemed too top heavy for me.
Get a Glock

I've had both and now I only have HKs.

Well knowing my stupid ass, I will probally buy many more handguns. This isnt my first handgun, I have owned a POS S&W Sigma, a Colt Pithon (wish I kept it), a ruger P89 and a ruger 22. As for learning something, I mostly spend my time with the AR-15, M1A and the Precision rifles section (Basically due to the fact that I have one in each those categories) hat
I think I'll buy the USP .45 first to give her a try.

I have a couple friends with XDs, they are nice guns and all but I like the Hks configuration so much more. I like the frame safety instead of the trigger and grip safety. I like the fact that the safety can be swithed sides and that the mag release is ambi because I am lefty.

I would suggest waiting for the HK45 to be released (supposed to be '06 SHOT show). But if you don't have the patience to wait that long, try to shoot both or at the very least hold them both before you make a decision. Most big name brand manufacturers make reliable guns, after that it is all preference

I've held the HK USP tactical, seemed pretty light to me... i think he does needs to lift some weights

I would go with the USP 45f.

I've got both types.

The XD does have a crappy finish and the striker only gives you one whack at the primer, but it fits the hand better.

The HK has the ergonomics of a 2x4, but does whack the primer every time you pull the trigger (an important feature to use before doing a dud clearance drill).

I like the SW99 because its the best of both worlds, fits the hand and whacks the primer every time you pull the trigger.

Get the XD. The finish is better on the newer ones. HK makes better rifles then hand guns.

i would definily look at both

if you want a safety switch, get the HK

if it does not matter, well which would you prefer--striker or hammer; trigger/grip safety or manual, etc

finish should not matter to much for a working gun--but yea, the dark finish on XDs suck (go w/ the stainless); the HK finish is pretty good

there are other factors too-(these i dont like on the HK)--low tang (i cant get a high-enough hand grip that i am use to using), creepy DA trigger pull, bulky/top heavy slide (throws it a little off balance), expensive hi-cap mags, and the safety is not as smooth feeling as a 1911 (which i am use to)
everything else makes the HK a nice shooting/handling firearm imo

XD: they are nice--only bad things are the crappy finish wearing (dont know if the newer ones have improved) and i dont like the slim lined grip safety; the trigger pull is consistant throughout and i like the grip angle and easy setup

another factor: one is made in Germany, the other in a 2nd world country, croatia (but i think SA still gives is a lifetime warrenty)--so quality manufacutring is also a thing to consider

shoot both (or at least hold em in you hand) and see which one fits YOU

Finish is a non issue, SA will Armory coat it for free if you ask.  

My wife has an XD40 and it's a good shooter.   We'll probably get rid of it and get her the 45 after we hear some range reports on them.   It's like buying a new model car, let someone else work out the kinks first.

Well, I assume that because a Gun is nearly double the price, some would think the same about the magazines. Also are the "Socom"  MK23 mags more money? might be a reason why they think that.

The Mk23 mags are more money. But then the cheapest I've ever seen a Mk23 go for is $1800.

I'd have to say go with the HK.

I remember reading about the XD model before it came out in gun rags,  and when I finally rented one,  It was almost comical.  I don't know what the hype was about.  I was less than impressed.

noaim, where are some of those hk USP .45acp mags? cheapest i have found is from ONE dealer who has some USED LEO marked 12rnd mags for $35 (use to be $25)

i cant find NIW 45 USPf mags for less than $48

cheap--glock hi-cap mags: $15

The controls on the HK feel cheap.  The decocker feels like it's going to snap off while you push it down.   Squeeze the magwell opening on the HK and see how much it squishes in.  The slides of the HK's are way too blocky.  The reset on the trigger is very long.  They're not balanced worth a darn.  You have to buy an adapter for USP rails in order to use most white lights.  Pick up a 2x4 in one hand and the USP 45 in another and you'll buy the 2x4 because it's cheaper.

The XD's don't need rail adapters to use most white lights.  Their trigger reset is comparable to Glocks, which is short.  Striker firing pins are prevalent on everything from bolt action rifles, to shotguns, and I don't hear much complaining about their firing pin mechanisms.  Squeeze the magwell opening on an XD and you'll find it's solid in comparison.  The XD in 45ACP has a grip circumference that's not much larger than it's 9x19mm counterpart.   Mini XD's have a rail for a white light, mini Glocks don't.

I've owned both.  I sold my USP and bought another AR15.   I shot both the XD and USP well, but I shot the XD better.  Both have ambidextrous magazine releases.  Both have spare magazines that can be purchased for roughly the same price.  Both are available in almost the same calibers.  Both functioned 100% out of the box.  I never noticed how one's finish wore faster than the other and neither were safe queens.  I wear atleast one of my pistols every day.  I'd say that the quality of craftmanship on the XD was better.  More expensive is not always best.  Whenever I pick up one of my 3 XD's, I think "How could I have paid only $500 for this?"

My friend, Steve, treats his XD9 like garbage.  He rarely cleans it and shoots it while it's dry.  Oil is so scarce on his XD that I wonder why it's not covered in rust.  He's gone 2,000 rounds inbetween cleanings and shoots bowling pin matches with it.  Yet his XD runs like a top every time.  Seeing this performance made me jump on the XD bandwagon from being a hardcore 1911 cult member.  The only XD I've ever gotten rid of was my XD9 Tactical.  I saw no use for it since the Service model was so inherently accurate.  I didn't see any need for having an XD with a 5" barrel.  I traded it for the new XD in 45 ACP.

Don't let some of these naysayers sway you away from the value that can be had with an XD.  They go bang every time you squeeze the trigger.  Give it a try.  And if you don't like it, you've only spent a couple hundred dollars as opposed to a thousand.  You can also bash me in a private message and I won't hold it against you.
