For Fun Time / Range Shooting , there are no CONs

For Carrying - Defending the Castle ?

Pick one - fire at least 500 rounds.
If nothing breaks , and you can hit with it you're good to go.

None of them are deep concealable though.

No Brand to recommend - but best keep to an uncomplicated mechanism.

Save up for ammo.

I like the Glock 21 and USPf .45

The only negative thing I can think of is that a double-stack .45's tend to be pretty wide. That may increase printing in a CCW situation.

it can also be a problem for small handed people.

as far as brands--para p14-45 is the only one i have ever had experience with and i thought it was a fine pistol.

cons: double the ammo in a mag=double the ammo spent and cost!

Pros: capacity

Cons: carry (much more pronounced signature & heavier to tote)

If you have the ability and reason to carry drop leg or OWB & jacket it is portable enough. Otherwise single-stack .45 is ideal.

Cons:

-Weight
-width of grip(bad for small handed folks)
-cost of practicing

I have a really nice Colt 1911 but dont practice with it as often as I should, maybe 2-3 times a month. Reason being is the cost of ammo, some people reload but I dont. So everytime I go to Wally world I drop over $65 for ammo as oppossed to only spending $30 for the same amount of ammo in 9mm.

Also, my G19 is lighter than my Colt Lightweight commander even though it has more than TWICE the ammo capacity.

I would hate to try and carry a doublestack 1911. Maybe a Glock 21 wouldnt be so bad.

+1 I love mine and it is very reliable so far after 500rds. It is also as easy to conceal just about as the 9MM XD I have. The only con would be expansive ammo but that is not a Hicap issue it is a .45 issue. My CZ97B is by far my favorite .45 but is larger than the XD and the CZ only holds 10rds.
