What guns do you think were meant for that specific caliber? I'll start first.

9x19mm: Beretta 92FS - God damn, sweetest shooting 9mm handgun out there!

.22lr: Ruger (Mk series or single six)

.357mag: SW 686 or Colt Python

There are two frame sizes of Glock...small and large. One is meant for 10mm, and the other for 9mm. The other calibers were shoehorned.

The .357 magnum was made for the Smith models 27 and 19.

The .44 magnum is for the Smith model 29.

You are spot on!!!!

I've never understood the attraction to the Beretta 92FS. I qualified on one in the Army, and carried it in the field, and my Father in law has a 96, as does my brother in law. I did some shooting with their 96's. My father in law's 96 KB'ed on a factory Hydroshock once at the range. The safety is terrible for a handgun that is meant to be drawn and fired quickly for a combat engagement. I don't like double action autos very much, but that's a personal thing. I prefer single action, but that's personal preferance. YMMV. They are fairly reliable with good mags, and fairly accurate, but not moreso than any other modern stock auto. There are a lot of little design features that I just don't care for, and that seem overly elaborate after spending some time with a simple efficient pistol like the Glock. My grip is more solid on a Glock as well. I think the Glock 17 or 19 are the best 9mm pistols out there, as far as stock fighting pistols go. Again, YMMV. I'm not saying the 92FS is a bad gun, but it's just not my choice.
What makes it a "sweet shooter"?

As i sit here with my beretta 92 on my hip....

I've never shot a 9mm that i liked more than my 92. The action is silk smooth, is 100% reliable, and overall a great gun.

The safety is just as quick and easy to disengage as a frame mounted safety, and if you dont like to disengage it, just get a G model and you wont need to worry about that (decock only)

The feel of the pistol is unbeatable. It feels like it was poured into my hand. Of all the pistols I have shot, including glocks, S&W, sig, taurus, 1911 and a few more, i much prefer the 92.

And any pistol will KB, and the 92 definately doesnt carry the reputation of other well known pistols.

The ORIGINAL .40 S&W was a wildcat cartridge build around the P 35 highpower

9mm was an upgraded .30 luger, german militaries attempt to get more stopping power

.45acp designed for use in the 1911 as adopted by the US military in 1911

.357 mag was originaly chambered for N frame S&W revolvers.

Thanks for taking the time to give a well thought out and articulated response to my question. I understand that the 92 has a pretty sizable following. That alone speaks highly for it. I didn't think it was a bad pistol, I just didn't personally like it that much. It sounds like you can disengage the safety pretty well, but I've never seen anyone do it quickly and efficiently in person. Have you used it in a high round count training scenario that had a lot of draw stroke reps?
