my guide rod on my 1911 commander is wearing out. not the rod shaft, but the "cap" that rests against the frame. i just ordered a fullsize chip mccormick guide rod to replace it. anyone else ever have this happen?

That's a new problem to me. I would make sure that there's a good fit in there, no binding or any misalignment.

Good luck.

This can happen sometimes when the barrel bushing exerts too much pressure on the spring plug, pinching the spring plug between the guide rod and the bushing.

One way to address this is to slightly relieve the notch on the barrel bushing to provide some more clearance.
