Before you all start my very petite wife likes the 1911 style but isn't comfortable shooting a .45.
Any suggestions?

If her hands are big enough, get her the Para Ordnance p-18. That's right, 18=1 rounds of 9mm ammo. It is only slightly larger than a single stack and you can actually get slimmer grips for it. If that won't work or you live in a capacity ban state, buy her a Springield Armory!

Springfield gets my vote. I love mine.

What about the old Series 70 9mm Combat Commanders?

Kimber, Springfield and STI all make 9mm models. If you've ever shot a 9mm 1911, you'll know that they are a barrel of fun to shoot. The heavier gun just eats up the recoil, and the 9mm round is so cheap that you can shoot an extra 100 rounds at the range and not have to sweat the ammo cost.
