I want to buy a Glock in 45ACP.  I already got a Glcok 17 and 19 Gen3.  So I want something similar in size.  Here is my options so far.

1st) Glock 21 Gen3 – most affordable but everyone said they are chunky with bad grip.

2nd) Glock 21SF – supposedly got a better grip.  Cost a little more.

3rd) Glock 21 Gem4 – supposedly got a better grip than the G21 and G21SF with removable black straps .  The latest generation of Glock and came with 3 mags instead of the usually 2 mags.  Most expensive at around $600.

So what do you guys think is the best option for me?  I shoot my Glock 17/19 comfortable so I want something with a similar grip.

IMO, you can't go wrong with  option 1 or 3, leaning towards three because it negates grip concerns.  I have owned and own 30's and 21's of various generations.  I love the G30 3rd gen, and am liking the G21 4th gen.  I have intentionally avoided any "specialty" (i.e SF Glocks) just because I don't want "special".

Shoot em all and see what works for you.

Try them out and see what you like best. I bought a 17 gen 4 after that exercise

I picked up a slightly used Gen 4 for $450 shipped.  Deals are out there.  I'd go Gen 4 or SF.

The gen 4 21 and the 21SF are pretty close together in grip size. Either would be a good choice. Don't know what part of OK you are in, but if you're in the Okc metro, there are some available at a local popular pawn shop.

Gen 4 G21 first choice
Gen 3 G21SF second

I just bought the SF because it cost less than the Gen 4 and still fits me well.

I also have Gen 4 G17 and G22.  The Gen 4 is real nice.

I had  21SF and traded it in on a Gen4 a few months after they came out. I love it, and will never get rid of it. Get the Gen4 OP. Then get a holster and 1k rounds and have some fun.

OP, you said you wanted a .45acp similar in size to the G17 or G19. The G36 is almost identical to the G19. Just a thought.

Nah, neither one really is. I personally can't stand Glock 45s, the sizing is all wrong. They should have made the 30 the same size as the Glock 19 with 8+1. My recommendation would be skip the .45 Glocks and go with a Glock 19. If you must have a striker .45 the size of the 19 right now, the M&P45C is closest thing out there Glock 19 size 45. Hopefully HK will come out with a VP45C

I have a gen 3 19 and 17, and bought a gen 3 21sf.  Felt the closest to the other pistols.  Feels like a slightly bigger 17 when I pick it up.

This is your best deal here. I thought the Gen 3 G21 was big and blocky at first but it has since grown on me and now I can pretty much shoot it as well as a 1911. Now when I pick up a 21SF the difference is hardly noticeable so I wouldn't bother switching to the SF. At any rate, if you pick up an LE trade-in G21 and decide you don't like the Gen 3 grip you can sell it and get your money back.

The the frame width on the 36 is a little less than the 19, while the 30s is a little more....but grip height is no comparison.  The 36 is small.

I was looking at either a G21sf or a G21 Gen3.  It was settled when 'Santa' left me a G21 Gen3, which has a little over 300 rounds down the tube now.  It shoots/handles real nice.

36 slide on Gen 4 29/30 frame:

Glock 36. I have medium size hands so this is the only 45 glock I can comfortably grip. Single stack 45 (6+1) and its thinner than the 17, 19 while being very close to the same size. Its about 1/8" shorter on the slide than the 19 and with the mag inserted its the same height. It also uses the same holsters (crossbreed, raven, gundo).

The only drawback is because its a single stack it has less round capacity, but that's why there are spare mags.

Good luck with your decision and remember the ARFCOM modo, get both!

I'm aware of this. That's why I said neither one is Glock 19 sized

The G3sf and G4 21's feel the same to me. The 41 has the best frame I would say. I carry a Gen 4 21 for work (ATM Tech for Armored Car). The 41 is just to big for me to carry under my conditions otherwise I would have gone with it.

My Gen4 21 has about 8000 rounds through it. I have had one stove pipe  in all of that while  running the gun really hot at a NRA training course, using tula ammo right after a mag swap. Other than that one malfunction which I believe was either an ammo/mag issue I have had no malfunctions. You will need to clean the 45 much more than any of the smaller bore pistols in my experience. I am very happy with my 21

Well, I was referring to the width of the frame. Actually, my G36 frame is about .075" thinner than my G19, whereas my G30S is about .075" thicker than my G19. So technically, the G19 is about halfway between the G36 and G30 in thickness in the grip area.

Pick up and feel the gen 3 vs the gen 4.    The gen 4 will be 2mm shorter (front to back) with a different texture.   If you add the medium backstrap it will be the same size.

Also with the gen 4 you have a larger magazine release and a dual recoil spring, in addition to the extra magazine and backstraps.

I'm a gen 4 snob but everybody has different hands.

So with the smallest back strap the G21 Gen4 will have a smaller grip than the G21SF?  I'm leaning toward the G21 Gen4 right now.

with no added back strap...it is supposed to be the same size but for many of us, the Gen4 G21 frame feels a touch smaller than the generation 3 SF frame...

I don't guess anyone told you that a 41 and Gen4 21 have the exact same frame?
