Before I figure it out myself?

I see that it is a simple lever spring.  Better from the bottom of the magwell or the top?

Recommended 'tools'?

thanks,
dan

Very easy and can be removed with a small thin straight bladed screw driver. After you detail strip the receiver, hold the receiver in your left hand with the dust cover up and pointing away from you(like you were going to shoot it), with your thumb holding the mag catch in place. Place the tip of the screw driver next to the mag catch spring. Pry the spring to the right toward the slot in the mag catch and at the same time slightly twist the screw driver lifting the spring out of the mag catch. Now push the catch out of the receiver.

No, just gives you a little extra practice.

+1 I thought the extended mag catch was better for a little while too, and then after dropping a couple mags at the range mid-stream I am getting ready to switch all of them back.

I ordered an extended mag release from Brownells, and I returned it without installing it because it was immediately apparent that the stock piece was much better for a carry gun.
