First of all i have a model 21 and im selling it becuse it is too large to carry.  I love the gun but its too big. I'm looking to get either a model 17 or 22. I want to carry it and shoot IDPA. I think im leaning tward the 22, but the 17 is so much cheaper to shoot...AAHHHHHHH...I still need some advice...Thanks

I love my G17.  If it were possible to marry a handgun and I was not already married, I would marry my G17 and we would make sweet Glock love.  The result of which would be love child baby Glocks.

So I pick the G17.

The G22 and G17 compete against each other in the same class in IDPA, so I'd go  with it for comp shooting.

As to self defense, I would rather have more power than the 9mm, but I dislike .40 caliber.

Why do I dislike .40? Its loaded to the edge. A tenth inch of bullet setback will double pressures, and in an unsupported Glock chamber, you find the reason for its reputation for KBs.

Are you sure the Glock 21 is too large for carry? I have found that I can carry whatever I want (I carry on private property only though) so long as I dress for it. In IN the G21 may well make it for you through the winter. I'm a .45 guy, thats why I ask.

Man, I love my G17 would'nt trade it for anything at this point.  Some may feel that the 9 is underpowered and it may well be.  However I feel pretty safe carrying my 17, especailly with the new generation expanding bullets I don't think you'd have anything to worry about.

Advice?  Be careful asking for advice in the handgun section.  I received a lot of "Try em both at a range" and "get the one you like better."  You know, useless shit like that.

I owned a G22 for 9 years and a G17 for 5 years.  Neither ever let me down.  100% reliable out of the box  for <$500 each.

G17 is my SHTF choice because 9mm NATO cartridges will be easily obtained, are economical to train with, and are sufficient anti-human rounds with JHP.  Regardless of what "experts" say, high capacity is a deciding asset and the Glock has em beat with a 17, 17+2 or greater capacity.

G22 inherits the 100% reliability and a 15 round .40 cal payload.  Recoil is sharper but very accurate.

If you cant afford both, I'd go with the G17 because of the abundancy of 9mm ammunition and the SHTF factor.

Good luck.

Another vote for the G17!! I am trading my G27 for a G19 this week.  9mm ammo is cheaper and that means more range time

Did anyone read the article in "Handguns" with the long range pistol shooting. The glock 23 landed 3/5 shots on a 200 yd target, with wolf amo...crazy stuff..not bad for a .40 cal

I bought a glock 23 and loved it so much, I bought a second one. Go with the .40, either the 22 or 23. As far as service life being a concern.... there are stories of Glock's, regardless of caliber lasting into the hundred's of thousands of rounds, only needing to be rebarreled ever so often and needing to have some of the internals replaced. Glock will last, regardless of what caliber you get.

I would go with the G17 for many of the same reasons stated above... ammo availability, ammo cost, reliability, it's the original, etc., etc.

Vote here for Glock 17

but

the Glock 17 is a bit large too conceal also.  Consider a 19.

I have never had any malfunction with any of my Glock .40's.... never had a FTF or FTE.... 100% jam free, no matter what I have fed it. I always use quality factory ammo though....

We told you the mechanical differences, and that which one you'll want depends on ergonomics, and that wasn't good enough for you!

I have had my Glock 22 for about a year and a half, and I like it very much. Ammo is kinda expensive but it is a good gun. I brought it used but I still like it. I have only shot the Glock 17 once at a range, it was good, but for stopping power I like the .40 better.  If you are really looking for high capacity, nothing beats the 17, especially the 29rd Glock magazines.  Hope this helps.

I know you made your decision so let me be the first to say congratulations!  I love my G17 and my G19 and I know you will be very pleased with the "original Glock".  I tried the G22/23 and found them to be very snappy.  There's plenty of good cheap practice ammo like WWB or UMC and very effective defensive ammo like Black Talon, STX or Carbon.  Choose the right ammo for the job and you will covered

One more bit of advice; don't sell your G21!  I love the G21 and would like to own one eventually and I know you will regret selling it so just hold onto it.

Actually IIRC the Glock 18 magazines hold 31 and with the extension they hold 33.

I have a Glock 22 and plan to buy either the Glock 17/34 next. Leaning more towards the 34.
