I have a gen 2 g17 which I purchased from a family member who's a police officer.  The previous owner before him was also a police officer and these were their duty guns so having said that, the gun is in good condition overall.  I've owned it for several years but it seems like it's wearing a bit.  Mag release doesn't seem to fully drop the mag unless i really press it in though everything else seems to be in good order.

My first thought is to replace all the springs on it simply cause of it's age but that could be going over board.  I have no idea what maintenance has been done to it.

Thoughts/suggestions?

if you have older non full metal lined mags, that could be why the mags don't drop. this is not a problem just the way the mags were built early on. If the gun works I am always inclined to leave well enough alone. The best way to go is attend a glock sponsored GSSF match, shoot the match and have the attending armorer fully strip and inspect the gun. They will replace worn parts or those for which an upgraded version has been made for free on the spot.

Like the above post states. Check what kind of mags you have first. They may be earlier pre bans that don't drop free all the time.

Your mag release spring is a leaf type and you may just have some dirt in there blocking it from being fully pressed.
As far as your other springs go, check your recoil spring, replace if you have any doubt about it (they are about $8-9 for the captivated assembly). Otherwise run the piss out of it.

I have a 1990 G17 with all the original springs including the uncaptivated recoil spring and its nowhere close to needing any springs replaced yet. Time is not the determining factor, cycles are.
