My Colt with the same VZ Operators as above:
 These are my favorite VZ grips for pretty much the same reasons as Edgecrusher gave. They have a great feel and an excellent grip.

I had a set of double diamond VZ's on my Commander, and every 100-150 rounds, they'd shoot themselves loose, even with blue loctite. VZ says to make a gasket out of a piece of inner tube, I now stick to wood or rubber. YMMV.

G10 is great grip material. I don't have G10 grips on my 1911 (yet) but I own several knives with G10 grips.
Does anyone make a G10 grip with the same color and checkering size as the brown USGI grips? That's what I want. Mil-Tac's checkered Flat Earth Brown grips are close, but I'd prefer the darker "federal" brown and smaller checkering. |

Is there a noticeable difference in the thickness of the standard to slim line grips from VZ? I haven't been able to find any dimensions or measurements on the thickness differences

My operators are not thick at all they are like a standard grip on a 1911. But if you are talking about slim as in really thin no they are just standard thickness.

I have thin G10 grips that came on my Dan Wesson Valor and they really do offer a better grip even with my fairly large hands. I'm going to put a similar set on my Springfield. Of course I can't just buy a set and put them on. You have to replace the studs that hold the grips on with short studs (check this out on the VZ website). This will cost more and I'm not sure you can just use a screwdriver to do this job.

I picked up a set of Aliens for my pistol and need to get another matching set to put on my fancy new knife. |

At one time they were a custom color/pattern available from Yost-Bonitz. This set was on the gun when I bought it, but have since been replaced. I felt like a gun like this deserved a set of really nice wood grips. I am not sure if they are still available or who would sell them? |

g10 is the way to go for 1911 grips, imo. wood ones look nice, but do not offer anywhere near the amount of grippiness that g10 does.

Pic––-> left side is VZ gator back slim.....right sight is G-10 grips in standard thickness. Notice how much the magwell shows on the left side?

Just ordered my Black G10 Aliens. Now the hunt begins for some quality magazines.
ETA: I think I will use my Loaded coupon and get 10 of the blued 7rnd mags and upgrade them with the Tripp Cobra Super 7 kits. |
