I've got a .22 Smith that I use in my NRA classes that is giving me problems. I've done full takedowns and action jobs on N frames before, but when I opened up the J, it's a bit different. Anyone know of directions/schematics available for the J? TIA

Absolute must-have is S&W Shop Manual by Jerry Kuhnhausen (sp?).

I got his 1911 book and it's tremendous. Didn't know he had one on the Smith. Thanks.

Visit http://www.gunbooks.com/. They are the most recent publisher of the JK shop manuals.

As it turned out, I didn't need any documentation, just some un-interrupted time. The only real difference between it and an N frame was the mainspring, and since it's so light, I was able to deal with that with a pair of needle nose pliers.

It cleaned up real nice, polished a couple of the parts, and seems to dry fire quite nicely. We'll see if the firing problems are gone.
