Looking for my first 1911!  I have several other handguns and want a 1911.  I want to spend between $700 -$850.  3 choices so far are (1) Springfield SRVC Tactical 45BSS Loaded (2) Kimber Custom II .45 ACP  (3) COLT O1880XSE GOVT LTW 45 5IN BL.  Any other ones in that price range?

I was in the same boat and went Kimber and I really like mine.

I say Colt, Springfield, and Kimber, in that order. I've had a couple of Kimbers, and they worked. But there was nothing like the feeling of my Colt when I first laid hands upon it. Perhaps that was psychological, but I've never loved a pistol like my Combat Elite. Of course, I haven't had the chance to shoot my Bob Rodgers Springfield yet, either!

I'd say Springfield and Colt for #1 and Kimber for #2.

I own a Springfield Loaded model, had it for about 10 years.

Springfield has a great Custom shop

Custom Shop

Take a look at what they can do. You dont need the top model but can turn it into a great gun through time.

I am sending mine back to be re finished (doesnt really need it) I am having the top in black and frame in green, I like the two tone look.

This - but with the caveat that I wouldn't buy any Colt these days without seeing it and inspecting it in person first.  In other words, don't order one sight-unseen.  Too many stories of Colts coming from the factory with issues.  Colt always seems to take care of the problems, but who wants to deal with that?

If you are looking for other options then check out the STI Spartan.  Otherwise, I can only tell you that I have been 100% happy with my Kimber Custom II and carry it everyday.

This might have been the case before Colt got the new CNC machines, but the word is strong that Colt has got it going on now. I can say my '08 Combat Elite has been flawless through 1K+ rounds.

Springfield Loaded / Stainless (they get more attention during assembly) They have the extra's & accuracy & dependability that would normally cost you another $1000 minium & I knowI have one & I have several 1911's above $2000 - $3000 The Loaded is just as accurate!!!

By far the best bang for the buck:)

You seem to be a big fan of the Loaded line, and I'm glad you got a good one, but your tendency to generalize is somewhat misleading.

Agreed.  Most Loadeds are made and assembled in Brazil and don't get the attention they deserve, the NM models are far superior.  I would never buy a typical Loaded SA without lots of inspection, and even then I'd prefer an NM prefix model.

Mine was made in 2000 and marked Brazil. I havent had a problem, I am going to have it changed to two tone and add night sights.

Great gun, I know other are at least equal. My only complaint is its not made here.

I was going to upgrade it through the custom shop to the TRP (See Springfields link) but I am a gun nut and buy guns alot. So I am happy with the loaded and just addd small items to it.

People may be leary of the Taurus because it hasn't been around as long, but I had good luck with one, and you can get more features for the same money.  I'm a big fan of front-strap checkering, and that's a little pricey as an aftermarket job, and it may not be as good as a factory job.  However, don't be too quick to listen to me, because some people hate it, and like a smooth frontstrap.  Others like the other types of textures, some will only use skateboard tape.  I'd say choose the one that has the most features, and be aware of the cost of upgrades that you'll likely want.  Sights are easy to change, beavertails and metalwork are more expensive.
