I have come across two used handguns that I like, one being a FNP 9 and the other being a PX4 (.40). The FN i can get for around $420 and the PX4 I can get for around $450. I cant decide which I want more, so I was hoping to get some feedback. The gun will be used for HD, CC, recreational shooting, and maybe some IDPA/IPSC down the road.

I don't like the slide-mounted safety/decocker on the Berettas.

I'd go with the FN if –– and only if –– I could find a manual safety model.

The PX4 40 cal is the softest shooting 40 cal I have ever shot. It is a great gun!

PX4 because of the rotating barrel lock design has way softer recoil, plus it has been out a little longer you can find more holsters for it, Safariland,Bladetech and DeSantis make for the PX4 I dont know about the FN.

I've been wanting a Px4 in .40, Type G with the "stealth leavers".  You guys have me lusting after one again......

It's 17-rounds in the flush-fit mag right?  That's pretty awesome since it's .40.

It'll have to wait though.  Just got a Colt Delta Elite and my LRB M14 is coming in a few week as well.....

This is ARFCOM. You know the answer. Get BOTH! If you can't afford both right now. I vote for the PX4. every one I have tried just shoots well for me. YMMV

So does the PX4 hold 14+1 rounds or 13+1 rounds?

Also does anyone know if conversion barrels exist for the PX4 to convert it to 9mm?

The PX4 in 40 cal holds 14+1 rds in the flush fit standard magazine. It will hold 17+1 rds with the extended floor plate installed.

I was looking at those two, both in .40.  I was able to find a lightly used Px4 for about $40 less, and went with it.  It's my only Beretta, and surely is nicely crafted.  Decent trigger, too.  I just can't shoot it worth a darn.  It is my only .40.

I'm going to say try them both; failing that, the one you can get cheaper.  Beyond that, I like the unique rotating barrel design on the Beretta.  I'm an FN fan, as well.

I think either would serve you well. Consider the M&P 40 and Glock 23, too, though. Used Glock 23/22s can be had for pretty cheap.

Edit: summitgunbroker.com has G23s for 375.

ETA, I have owned my PX4 for about two years now and must say that I have been very pleased with this pistol. After adding a "D" hammer spring and firing a case of ammo through it I have found that it has a very smooth trigger and it is rather accurate compared to other pistols I have shot in 40 S&W. It is also very feed reliable with no feeding or extraction problems at all. The single most important upgrade for these pistols is to replace the factory Luminova (crap) sights with Trijicon night sights and they are ready to go.

Well I ended up going with the PX4
