I bought a Kimber PRO/TLE RL II a couple weeks ago and am having some issues with the ejected shell casings hitting me in the face.

Is this a common problem?  Is there anything that I can do to stop this from happening?

This is my first 1911 and have never encountered this issue with my other pistols.

I had that exact same issue with my mine.

I went through two of them and had jamming issues here and there as well.
That was one of the symptoms of my over issue.

Hopefully your's is 100%.

You won't know until you spend $$$ on ammo to "break it in" and even then it may still need to be sent in for repairs.

It it where me, if you got a 1911 that was 100% but brass hit you in the face time to time, I'd chalk it up as a win.

IMO

Sounds like your extractor needs tuning.  Check out this thread from m1911.org.

Tighten your left arm and hand :-)

Limp left arm and hand will cause the casing to eject straightback into your forehead

Hope this helps, comes from trying to teach ROTC cadets how to shoot

i posted the issue of the "wake up" shell to the forehead awhile back with a raptor pro  ... after about 300 rounds it stopped ... had the same thing with an ultra .. 500 rounds later, it still happens, about 1 out of 200 rounds

I had the same problem with an Ultra Carry, and ended up having to replace the ejector.

It's likely the extractor, ejector or BOTH.

OP, did you get the problem solved?

My Custom Carry II does every once in a while as well.  I'm hoping that will go away in time as I've only put >100 rounds down the pipe to date.  More often it's the top of the head, or worse, down the back of my shirt.

Sorry for the delay guys, but the weather has been really bad here the last few days (freezing rain), so I haven't been able to shoot much.

Yesterday I completed the 500 round break-in, and I also worked on tightening my left arm and hand as suggested.  After I was able to maintain a proper grip, and shot more rounds through my Kimber, the ejected shell casings became less erratic.  The last 50 or so rounds that I fired ejected perfectly.

If I have time tomorrow I might do some more shooting.  Hopefully I have corrected this problem, if not, I will keep you posted, and try other methods to resolve the issue.
