I want to get a Taurus raging bull but I cant decide if I should get it in 454 or 480 ruger. Im leaning towards the 480 just because its a little more powerful but do you guys think that round will still be available in the years to come or will it end up like the 440 corbon or the 41ae ?

Are you sure the .480 is more powerful than the .454? I haven't looked at the ballistics since the .480 was introduced but I thought the .454 was the more powerful.

That said I think the .480 will be as popular as the .454 or .41 mag.. That is popular enough to stay alive but not popular enough to have more that one or two loads available at your better sporting goods stores.

.454 casull is more powerful..480 ruger books along at 1300fps inwith 325 grain bullits where as the .454 really books at 1900 fps.
i bought the 480 because i wanted the biggest calibre production gun made.(smiths 500 magnum has taken that crown).

recommend the .454 and get into handloading if you are not already. also handles .45 Colt rounds which can be loaded up to and above .44 mag. .45 Colt rounds are a joy to plink with. like shooting .38sp in a .357. adds versatility

The .480 Ruger doesn't make any sense to me. It's less powerful than .454 and generally more expensive to shoot (shells cost more so even if you reload its more expensive). Plus as noted the .454 can handle .45 Colt (which is my favorite caliber). The reloading options are vastly superior for .454 too with bullets available from 160 grains all the way up 400. If I was going to bet on which one has staying power I'd say .454 hands down. I kind of think .480 Ruger is going to expire.
