anybody got one of these and can comment on it?

seems like it'd be a 44 magnum magnum so to speak and perhaps might be an ideal whitetail hunting handgun?

just curious...

It is a .44 magnum - magnum. The .445 is an extended .44. It doesn't have the muzzle velocity of a .454 Casul but down range a bit the better ballistic coeffiecient of the .44 cartridge allows the .445 to retain its speed and the velocities aren't all that far off. So for hunting and long range shooting it might be a good choice. Also the .445 has lower chamber pressures meaning less kick. With the .445 you can also shoot standard .44 mag and .44 special so you can save some money at the range.

Interchangable barrels are nice too.

I owned both for awhile and the Freedom Arms .454 Casull had to go. The FA broke parts all the time, and ended up going back to the factory 3 times for repairs. It also broke three scopes. It was a nice gun while it worked, but it was rarely operational.

On the other hand, my .445 SuperMag is flawless and always shot better groups than the .454 anyway. It's got a bit less power than the .454, but the SuperMag has plenty of punch for my needs. The Freedom Arms .454 Casull was sold, but I'll be keeping the SuperMag for a long time.
