Just got off the phone earlier tonight with my dad, who recently plunked down a large wad of cash for a Tactical Custom II at Gander Mountain.

He's less than pleased with how it's performing at the moment...he said today when he took it out, he experienced a failure to go into battery after the first round was fired...knowing that he probably has <100 rounds through it, and supposedly these things require break-in, that wasn't all that surprising.

It was surprising to me that he told me that when he racks the slide with a round in the chamber and a mag in the weapon, it won't eject the round (preventing him from clearing malfunctions, esp. a simple tap-rack without ejecting the mag first.)  It pulls the round out of the chamber but it hangs on the ejection port edge and won't come out of the gun.

He's using Wilson Combat 8 round ETM mags.  I've had great performance out of them with my Sig GSR, but who knows.

He's wondering if he's going to have to send it back or have it smithed to work out the kinks.  I'm fairly new to 1911s myself, having bought my GSR used this past August, so I'm not sure what to tell him other than try it out with the cheap feeling 7 round mag that came with the weapon.  I'm used to just taking out my Glocks or XD and having things work without having to think about it.  So far my GSR has been just as reliable...and I think Dad's envious because I spent about $400 less on mine.

Any ideas?  I also suggested weak extractor (which shouldn't be a problem on a new gun, but weirder things have happened).
