I was listening to NRA news on Sirius the other night, and the Colt representative that they interviewed said that that the are bringing back the Delta Elite in 10mm!

That is all, thank you for your time.

You gettin one then. right?

They brought it out as a tease last year at SHOT.  Everybody's been waiting for one since.

I was talking to one of the nice ladies at Colt this morning and she said it's now scheduled for spring.

Of course, this means my old Delta Elite will get returned to stock and back in the original box and I'll have to buy one of the new ones as a shooter.

Yes sir!  They quoted an MSRP of around $920.

Just another gun that shoots prohibitively expensive ammo that not one local source carries.

Then I suggest that in the future you simply skip past any threads having to do with the 10mm cartridge or the guns that fire it.  You'll save yourself time and spare the rest of us from having to read your words of wisdom.

I refuse to believe it until I see one at a gunstore.
They've been dragging it out for far too long.

I would not expect a flood of these to pour out of Colt at any time, it seems like they have a hard time building standard NRM Govt model .45s in any quantity as it is. If you really want one right now it will be faster to locate an older Delta that someone is trying to sell than waiting for a new Colt.

I have an old Delta but I hate beating it up since the finish is about 99% on it.

Either way, it seems like Cabela's is having no trouble keeping stock on the Combat Elite right now.  Every time I go there, there's a Combat Elite and a Series 70 in the case.  I know I bought a Combat Elite there, so they must have had more than one.

Either way, yeah, it might be vaporware, but there appears to be enough demand for them that Colt showed them at last year's SHOT and again at this year's SHOT.

Hope they come through.

yourself.

If you've never seen a Delta Elite with cracked parts than you haven't been around many. That tends to happen when you just stuff a very high pressure cartridge in a weapon designed for a very low pressure round.

That was a problem with the very early Delta Elites.  Colt changed the cut around the slide stop, now known as the "Delta cut," which corrected that problem.  They would also cut the earlier pistols under warranty.

My Delta Elite has the "Delta cut" already.

But then, so do most of my other Colt pistols, since they carried it over to the rest of the product line as well.

In addition, there have been advances in metallurgy in the past few years.  Most manufacturers are taking advantage of them.

ETA:  Most of the frame cracks were also in guns shooting the Norma loads.  There are only a couple of manufacturers still loading to the Norma specs and my Hornady manual doesn't even approach the "hotness" of those loads.

A 10mm not loaded to Norma's spec is nothing more than a long 40,

[#20]
My 10mm Silvertips claim they approach Norma specs.  Norma was 170gr at 1300 fps and the Silvertip claims to be 175gr at 1290 fps.  Hornady XTP is 180gr at 1180 fps.

I don't shoot a lot of these through the gun, though.

I load my range ammo for 180gr at 1100 fps.  It keeps from hammering the gun so much and it keeps from hammering me so much since I'm getting to be an old guy and I don't have as much to prove to anyone any more.

Likewise, I can load down to 950 if I want to shoot mousefarts at something.

But that's one of the advantages of the 10mm platform.  You can do a lot of different things with it and they're all good.

That's why I carry Doubletap. 165 grain Gold Dot at 1450 FPS.

I like the Buffalo Bore 180grn Gold Dot loads at 1350fps.

Have you chrono'ed any of those?  I was trying to push some up there a bit for testing, but with Accurate #7, I got to a certain point and from there, all I did was increase muzzle flash and noise, but got no real improvement in velocity.

I'm thinking about switching to 800x now.  I hear that's the new best powder for 10mm...

I'll eventually figure out something I like and put some XTP bullets on the end of it for varmints and nuisance dogs out on the farm.

(By nuisance dogs, I mean like the one that killed my neighbor's dog - that one's got to go)

Yep. Doubletap advertises that load at 1400 FPS but it runs 1447 out of my G20 on a chrono.

Sweet!  That's good info - I suspect one day this week, I'll be making a trip out to the farm with my chrono.  Thanks!

I am still kicking myself for not buying a blued or should I say rebuled Colt Delta for $570 a few months ago.  I thought about for a week, went back to the gun shop and it was gone.

Try Accurate #9....that is my go to powder for the medium to heavy bullet weights in 10mm.  That powder really pushes those 165 grain Gold Dots.

BTW, I have chrony'ed the same DoubleTap load, and they are as fast or faster than advertised.

I just ordered some LongShot and 800x this morning.  I'll have to try the Accurate #9, too - now to find some.

Not to thread hijack, but loading supplies have been hell to find for a while.  Cabela's in Buda is out of powder period and Sportsman's Warehouse has about 3 pounds of powder I don't use.
