I’ve got a Colt 1991A1 NRM and and three times with 3 different mags I’ve gotten a failure to feed on the last or next to last round in the mag.  Is this a gun issue or mag issue?  I’ve only shot exactly 301 rounds through the gun.  Thanks.

Check to see if the extractor is a bit too tight. A weaker then new mag spring plus a bit tight extractor can cause this issue. What mags are you using, cheapos or good ones?

how do I do that?  Its happened with a wilson combat mag, an old mecgar mag and the colt factory mag.  When this happens the slide doesnt return to full
battery...

How old is the recoil spring and what weight is it? If you don't know, start there with a 16 lb [standard weight] Wolff recoil spring and see what happens before you do anything else.

I bought it brand new in December...should I still try the Wolff spring?  I'm shooting it with the spring that came with it.....

I think that your extractor is just a bit tight and needs to have some tension taken out of it. Have you ever done a extractor test?

The slide not returning too full battery may indicate interference with the rim slipping up behind the extractor. I would also suspect a tight extractor.
You can remove the slide and with the barrel removed slip a cartridge (rim) up the breech face behind the extractor, it should slip in with very little resistance (just enough to hold it in place when the cartridge is positioned).

Agree.  90% chance the extractor is too tight.
