I recently bought a M&P 9 pro and it seems to shoot rather low - I'm fairly new to handguns and I was curious if I could adjust the sights on my own, do 8 have to have a gunsmith do it, or do I need to get new sites?  Any guidance is appreciated!

they are only adjustable for windage. to get a higher impact, you need a lower front sight or higher rear sight.  there are many choices these days for mp site.go to the dawson precision sight and take a look

I've got an M&P40L, which has the same slide as your 5" Pro.  I put a Dawson Precision all-black adjustable rear on it and haven't looked back since.
