I got mine yesterday.
A Service Grade Remington Rand (slide and frame), both appear to be correct for serial range (NO 26158XX serial indicating it was made in 1945). The NO is lighter than the serial # but is crisp and clean. The barrel appears brand new and has a "89" on it and it appears to be chrome lined chamber and bore, which I have never seen before. The hammer looks brand new and does NOT match with Remy guns and has the large "flared" hammer that I've seen on Colt's. I have not stripped it yet to look for marks on the smaller parts, which all look brand new. I could not see any stamps on the barrel bushing or spring guide. Grip safety looks new also. The gun looks almost new except for random scratches on it (like the poster above with the excellent Colt except not as bad). It has all the typical stamps and a few extra that I dont recognize (A "Z" on the right side of the frame, on the base of the trigger guard, just next to the mag release) and also a "2" on the other side (left) upper part of the trigger guard near the slide stop/lock. The only thing that looks used on this gun is the grips. Typical brown plastic with heavy wear on the right panel (typical of a holstered gun's grip rubbing on everything). Also, the magazine looks new and only says "Assy....." and "MFR 1M291". The trigger is heavy but crisp and breaks clean. Any opinions on my gun? Why would a fairly new (looking) gun need to be re-barreled? Likely it was re-parkerized but still looks very new with stamps nice and clean under the park, including all edges and lines look clean, un-rounded. edit It does NOT look to be fired a lot. Even if re-parkerized, the machine marks on the high ware areas like the slide/frame rails still look "unpolished". |

About a week later, I got a call from a nice lady asking my what grade I wanted. All 4 grades were available so I asked for the "highest grade" for $1250. I also gave my CC info. The same day I got an e-mail asking for my FFL which I returned attacked to an email. It was 24 hours later that my FFL called me!! I couldnt believe it. see my post above about the 1945 production Remington Rand that I received. I love the gun but I have no idea of it's "collector value" since if this gun saw action in a war, it was carried by Gen. McArthur because it looks brand new. I'm also proud to say that I qual'ed Expert on the 1911 in 1993 but never actually carried one. Every 1911 I saw in the Army looked wore out and rattled like a box of parts (unlike my "new" Remy). |

The lighting and glare was playing hell with my pictures but I did my best. The pistol has some superficial scratches all over, especially on the right side that do not show up too well. It looked like it was a new gun that was tossed into a box with other guns and got some scratches. Also that dark discoloration on the right side, near the muzzle. I have not tried to scrub it off yet. |

Also try to take photos out door in cloudy day or indirect sunlight (shaded outdoor area). It will cut down the glares. |

Picked up my service grade today.
I got late 1941 colt frame with Remington rand slide. Barrel is a eighties replacement. Not happy about idiot scratch, but at least I didn't do it. Pistol doesn't have any arensal markings. Maybe I'll FOIA it to see where it's been. ![]() |

However, mine has two arsenal stamps but no year markings. |

For example - RIA, SA, AA, BA, OG, MR Later rebuilt (1970s and on) seems like month / year stamp became a standard thin. For example - ANAD mm yy, O-yy, A-yy |

Mine has an ‘85’ marked barrel so I just figured it was rebuilt on or after 1985. |

Mine has an ‘85’ marked barrel so I just figured it was rebuilt on or after 1985. From what I've read, swapping old barrels out for new ones could happen anywhere and if it doesn't have a code stamped on it, then it wouldn't be considered rebuilt. Mine was similar, having no code on it, but with an 80's replacement barrel. |

Can anyone recommend a place to get OEM GI replacement grips. My right grip panel is loose.

I couldnt find any for sale but I'll keep checking. Sarco has some for $25 but I'm worried they may be too beat up per the description. BTW, I hope it's not sacrilege but I shot my pistol. It shot GREAT. Sights are dead on and groups were excellent despite the heavy trigger. Better than my new Colt Competition despite me having to wear reading glasses to see the tiny sights. Ejection was a little erratic with a few empties landing on my head. I probably wont shoot it again, except maybe a special occasion but I had to know if it functioned properly (ID DOES). |

Not sacrilege in the slightest. They were built to shoot and most people I know of take them to the range as soon as they can.
When I eventually (maybe next month) get mine I'm going to run a few mags through it for old times sake. |

These guns are meant to be shot!
I have put 500-750 rounds through mine. |

I just received an e-mail this morning stating that Round 3 was currently open. I got one in the first round, so I'm not eligible. I did click on the link, and it says Round 3 is open and the cut off date was extended due to Hurricane Ian. I couldn't find what the actual cut off date is/was. Does anyone know if it is still in fact open?
