Picked up my wife's field grade the other day. Pics above. Just got the call on my number, 38892. As happy as I was with her field grade I decided to roll the dice on a rack grade. All three grades (rack, field, service) were available. We'll see what it looks like in a week or so...

Originally Posted By Mindfull: I think I got it set and then someone post pictures. View Quote Thank you. I felt the same way. I wanted anything but one of the light grey recent re-park pistols, so I went the field route when offered field or service. There seem to be some decent pistols rolling out right now. Best of luck with what you get. |

#2 arrived. Rack grade. Definitely rougher than the Field grade my wife received (pics above). Per serial it's a 44/45 Remington Rand gun with Remington Rand slide. Seems to continue the idea that the Rack guns are more likely to be matching (manufacturer, not necessarily original). If I knew for sure what I was getting, I probably would have went with 2 Field grades. The Rack is newer and rougher. Both offer unique aspects, so I'm content with them. The Field just seems to embody a better balance of condition and patina IMO.

Looks great! Congratulations. Honestly, I'd be happy with anything that is same-tone and wasn't refinished in the light grey. Even the replacement slides turn a piece of history into great range guns.

Still waiting for CMP to allow previous buyers to purchases a second one. I'm surprised round 3 is still going.

Kind of a bummer they have kept it open for so long instead of a 4th window allowing repeat customers. ETA - Some of the recent guns folks are receiving are incredible. |

View Quote The CMP forum said they haven't even been calling people anymore. It's just an email now asking what grade and for payment and ffl info . That's been reported by numerous people in the 1911 forum. |

Are there any round 3 1911s left or is it at a standstill?
If so what grades? What are the thoughts on the shooter grade? |

Got my Navy FOIA back. There is one location code I can’t figure out. I know the Anniston code and the Crane code. It has an R21105 as a last location code and I’d like to know what that is. From what I can gather, it may have been a guided missile frigate named the Curts. I know the CMP forum has a lot of info and a guy over there that is very knowledgeable, but I am not registered to post there and don’t really want to sign up. Any help is appreciated.

The 21105 I thought may have been the Curts, from what I could find. Thank you. Definitely USS Curts. Was with USS Independence Battle Group based at Yokosuka, Japan in the 1990s. I was on another ship there at the time, and we only traded in the 1911s for M9s in 1997. During the 1991 Gulf War, a detachment from Curts captured an Iraqi garrison on Qaruh Island, and later sank an Iraqi minelayer. After she was decommissioned she was expended as a Sinkex target. It took 3 Harpoons and numerous Hellfires to put her under. Tough little ship. |

It only goes back to August of ‘76, but it looks like my pistol stayed on the Curts until it was back sent back to NWSC Crane in ‘96. |

Round 3 was open for what, like 1 year? Never saw that coming! Wonder how long for round 4? If they have 90,000 1911’s to sell it could be awhile.

With the previous two rounds, how long was it from the submission deadline to when they started contacting people?

From my packet submission to RNG email was 3 weeks or so.

It was another 4 months until I received the call from CMP to select what grade was available and for my selection. They will contact you, tell you grades available, then ask you to have your ffl send in their info. Your ffl will either fax or email it to them. They call from 256-770-4744 Save that number in your phone so you dont miss their call. Even if you do miss it, they will leave a message to call back. |
