It's going to vary depending upon the type of bike....say a cruiser or a sportbike.  But I'm looking for any input, opinions, or commentary on the subject.

Let's see...
* small of back - probably not preferred for riding a bike...sure, it's out of the way, but if you go down...ouch!
* IWB on hip - most bike jackets ride quite high, so it may not be concealed.  For sportbike riders who are leaning over...hmmm
* IWB in front - again for sportbike riders this may be uncomfortable
* cross draw - it may actually work for riding
* pocket sewn into jacket...not bad at all, jacket probably cost a pretty penny
* carry on bike - (off body) such as in a tank bag or backpack
* ankle carry - not sure I'd be willing to try that one
* chest carry - need something to hold it in.  It may look a little strange, but it would fit well
* fanny pack - not bad...sportbike riders may find it unconfortable
* shoulder-rig - say either leather or the Konfidant shirt - cross draw problems, but might be comfortable
* pockiet carry - can we make sure it doesn't fall out?

Of course add 110 degree Arizona heat and... *sigh*

sounds like a shoulder rig might work best

Depends on the style of bike you ride and the model pistol you wish to carry.  I ride a cruiser and find that  the Kimber Ultra Carry rides best in a  horizontal shoulder rig.  When it is too hot for a leather jacket my S&W J frame sits in my pocket in a Desantis Nemisis (sp?) pocket holster.  There is generally plenty of room in jeans for a pocket holster.

ETA - WTH, I tagged since I have the same question.

All I've managed to come up with yet by just thinking about it is horizontal shoulder and a vest (hot) or maybe a fanny pack ().  I've never tried IWB but maybe in and out of that and a tank-bag or saddle-bag while riding?  Good question Robbie.

fanny pack or IWB is what I wear in the heat.

fanny would probably be best(versitile) for riding.

Please describe the good & the bad issues for each.

fanny pack:
+ always got your goods concealed and you can position it where you want, when you want w/o worrying that you'll be showing
- they're a bit larger than usual, and you can spot others when they're ccw w/ fannypack

IWB:
- always worrying about showing (depending on how you dress)

I started out with just one holster..now I've got about 4.

Thanks RED_5.  I gather that IWB and an untucked shirt (or even a vest) versus wind is worrisome. Damn.

I have a fanny pack and do feel like it's hollering "See me? Yep - I'm packing!".  That and it takes me about a week to get to el pistola.

I've got a shoulder rig too. It's great for easy access but it means adding a vest at the minimum & even my fishing vest gets hot.  Then there's the "take away" feature as well.

I've thought about a tank-top with shoulder rig under an untucked shirt but tossed that aside due to print worries and slow access for me and not that much better regarding "take away".

Ah the agony we go through to CCW .

My first goal in CCW is to have it avalible. It is HIGHLY unlikely (IMHO) that I will be involved in some sort of old west style shoot-out.

Get down/seek cover or create distance between you/threat.

Yeah.  Me too.  About all I really worry about is mugging but then that might just be my age talking.  I can still be a real bad MoFo physically - for about 5 seconds though .

I keep coming back to my shoulder rig & vest.  Probably the most effective trade-off is to just handle a little extra sweat on the hot days and do what ya aught to do anyway - stay aware.  Seems like that would work darn well on a bike too.

while riding my bike  i have 2 wats of preferred carry,
small of the back (magnum pi style) when it was too hot for a vest/ jacket for shoulder carry.

couple of times when in miami and riding with the small of the back carry, i had a carfull of punks getting too close and just generally trying to screw with the "biker". all i did was lift my shoulders up a tad to expose the s&w 645. never took either hand off the handle bars  both times the  thug wannabess backed off in a hurry

When I was riding a bike I carried in a fanny pack (S&W 642 in a Galco pack).  Pulled to the front and slightly left was the most comfortable and easiest to access.  Yeah, it may scream "Gun" to other gun onwers and cops, but I'm not too worried about them; never had a regular person give me a second look.

shoulder rig when you have a jacket on or a tankbag for the hot summer rides.

I carry with a smartcarry on my harley. I have also carried many  of times with just an IWB with an untucked shirt and have had no problems with the shirt flapping up.

Don't depend so much on the bike
Depends how you ride it

off road....XT500 always

If you ride like you stole it

Adrenaline will see you through

been there.... got the t-shirt

Taffy

BTW I never stole a bike in my life.....I just ride like I have

Kel-tec p3at 380 in front pocket.  I made my own holster that disguises it as a wallet, but other companies manufacture them.

If you want full size I would say on hip, anywhere else would be real bad if you went down.  Especially shoulder holster. Makes my ribs hurt.

when i ride i carry at 3 oclock - but i always where a jacket, i know it wont be seen. i ride a sport bike and HAVE gone down(the one time i did go down) with the gun on. No problems wrt the gun. If i didnt wear a jacket i wouldnt suggest carrying IWB because it would eventually be out in the open with the wind.

I could see a shoulder holster working, but it might bounce around and knock into your ribs and that would get old really quick.

Good luck

a small revolver or kel tec in your front pocket. i use a S&W 340PD. you can get to it fast and dont have to worry about it being seen.

i used to carry my G19 owb at 4 oclock with my leather coat over it and that worked well. however, that would be a very bad spot if you were to go down. when i went down the only places to get road rashed were my hips where my jacket pulled up when sliding. I also had severe bruising in the 3 and 4 oclock areas. i cant imagine what would have happened if my G19 was there.

i cruise with a cross draw set uo that allows me to draw with my left hand. PPK S for scooter runs, solid flat points.

The current choice is a fanny pack with a Glock 19 or an NAA Guardian in the pocket.  Maybe when the weather cools, I can carry the Glock more discreetly.

Yeah, I know....."normal" people haven't a clue about a fanny pack.  But whenever I see any fanny pack, I'm guessing which model, caliber, and how many spare mags they have.
