I need a high cap .45, what are your suggestions?  Like 12 rounds or more.
Around here zombies seem to travel by the dozen.
I love my Colt Gold Cup, but would like to add a higher capacity .45 to the team now
that we can buy real magazines again.
Looking for your experiences and suggestions.
I don't want this to turn into a brand x versus brand y thing, which it probably will , just
looking for suggestions.

Thanks.

HK USP/Tactical (dont like the trigger pull on the reg USP, expensive mags)
G21 (grip is kinda wide for me, glock trigger)
nice, recent contender: SA XD (no personal opinions, YET)

or you could just get some WC 10rnd mags for the 1911

1st USPf .45
2nd Glock 21
If you like the 1911, the USP can be carried the same way(CL).  The Glock is better in all other ways.  In my opinion the USP is better than a double stack 1911 and the Glock is better than the XD, Kahr and so on.  So that is your two best options depending on the condition you like to carry. YMMV

I'll be shooting the XD .45ACP either Friday or Saturday for the first time. I'll write up a brief review and put a link here.

I like my XD .45 very much so far but only have 200rds through it.

My Choices would be

1. Glock 21
2. HK USP
3. XD .45ACP

Another Option......
I like these a lot, Well made and I can get my small(ish) hands around them, like a single stack. I find the STI's a little too wide for comfort.

i learned to shoot on a p14-45 and that is the only para product i have experience with.  but my friend who owns it has never had a problem and there was never an issue while it was in my hands.  i doubt the p13 or p12 would be much different.

I have a feeling that more and more people will be liking the new XD 45.  It fits my hand so much better than a G21 and holds 13+1.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far.

Someone asked how I like to carry, if I prefer cocked and locked.
I should have clarified in my original post, this would NOT be a carry gun.
My carry guns are small and light, this gun will not be one of those.
This will be a steel plate droppin', paper target poppin' gun.

Thanks again for all the great information, and feel free to keep it coming, please!

Para makes decent pistols with decent prices.  If you've got some money to play with definitely look into the STI/SVI guns.  They're great!

+1 for any Para Ordnance

Although I have an XD and the new .45 is very appealing especially if you consider the price.

I would look at a CZ97B if that is what you are going to use it for. Just an opinion and recomendation. Mine will out shoot my SIG 220 or my two SA 1911s which shoot great. I do not know if you consider 10rds hi cap or not.

My 5" XD45 has been awesome so far.  Nice trigger, slim grip, very natural point of aim and recoils like a 9mm.  Head and shoulders above the Glock 21 and HK USP .45 Tactical I've owned.  The new finish is very tough although whether it stands up there with Tennifer is yet to be seen.  In any case the only shortcoming I've got so far is a shortage of mags (which should eventually sell for under $20 each if other XD mag prices are comparable).

I have a G21 and a USPf .45 that I find it hard to believe the XD willl stand up to.  Don't get me wrong, I would be happy if it did.  I just don't find it likely.

Want rugged/dependable at a good price-Get a G21

Do you reload/thinking about reloading-Get a USP

Desire a safety/decock pistol that can be carried Cocked and Locked-Get a USP

Want to accessorize your pistol-More aftermarket stuff is available for the G21

Want the same natural aiming point as the 1911-Get a USP

Got to have all of the above-Get BOTH

Bottom line is that what is best for one person may or may not be the best choice for you.  Try them both and pick the one that suits you the best.  They are both high quality, accurate and well made pistols.

I hear what you are saying but it will not suprise me anymore since the 9mm XD that I purchased with some reservation has been as good as my G-19 and better than my USP9mm I had. It is another story when you change calibers though so we will see. If my XD .45 is junk I will say so.

I would say that the size of your hands is an important factor.  I have big hands (size XXL gloves) and the Glock 21 feels absolutely perfect in my hands - more so than any pistol or pistol-grip equipped rifle I've ever handled.  My XD-9 is not terribly comfortable for me to shoot as I find the grip to be much too small for my hands - as is the case with most other pistols.  I hear the XD-45 is similar in size to the XD-9, but I don't know how ther others compare in size to the Glock.  Something to consider, though.

USP Tac.  Adjustable sights, match trigger and barrel.  Perfect paper puncher, and damn handy for zombies as well (especially if you have a can for it).

As much as I love 1911's, no high-cap models would make my list. It's seems like every high cap 1911 has magazine issues.

I would have to vote for a G21.

If you have long fingers/big hands a G21 is hard to beat. I have had one 6 years and it has always been a good gun, accurate and reliable. My hands are more stumpy than others and upon handling a XD45 I bought it on the spot, its that much more comfy in smaller hands. I have 500 rounds through mine with no hang ups. If your hands are large a G21 is going to be awsome, If you have smaller hands I would recomend the XD45.
