I am considering purchasing a SS Beretta 92fs so I went to my local gun shop to check one out when I got there I noticed that they had Taurus pt92's there that looked exactly like the Beretta the difference was the Tuasus was polished which I really liked and it was a little more than $100 cheaper than the Beretta. So I have been thinking about wich I sould purchase, I am thinking that maybe the Taurus is a Beretta clone and I should go for the real deal and polish it myself. What are your thoughts Beretta vs. Tuarus and do they use the same Mags I have two 15 rounders and a 30 rounder for the Beretta. hinking.gif

I was at one of the local dealers today also trying to make the same comparison.  I liked the fit of the Beretta a little better but liked the "Cocked and Locked" ability of the Taurus.  I am more of a 1911 fan so the wide body feel of the grips felt strange. The Beretta ss was $625 and the Taurus was $475 (and it was a pimp stainless/gold with the fancy wood grips.) I did like the frame mounted safety/decocker on the Taurus and the lifetime warranty. I deciced to think about it a little more and bought a Kimber Custom Eclipse II to play with while I thought about it.

I have a beretta 92FS, and my dads friend has the taurus copy.  Please do yourself a favor and get the beretta.  Not a single problem with mine yet, is the most accurate 9mm I have fired, and it survived a 1500 round torture test with S&B crap ammo without one problem.  The taurus would have one hell of a time with that, given that the gun jammed up on me twice, and I only fired 20 rounds.  I've heard of similar jamming tales from other people as well, and will never buy a taurus PT92.

The price of the beretta is well worth it.  "You get what you pay for" applies to this situation VERY well.

Not to knock anyone, this is my experience with a Taurus pt92 AF.
Purchased in January  ’89 for $300-350 ($100 or 150 less than a Beretta).
This was the time when there was a rumor of Beretta frames or slides supposedly cracking around 10,000 rounds, later proven untrue I think. Price and the wood grips were my wife’s deciding factors, her gun.

A friend and I went to the range. Were we meet a man and his 16 or 17-year-old son, who had just purchased a Beretta 92.
Between the 4 of us over the next 2 hours we all shot both guns with 4 different rounds: 2 brands hp and 2 brands fmj.
1.There were no failures of any type from either gun.
2. The Taurus mags would work in the Beretta but not the other way-around. (I now know they will, just have to modify the Beretta mag a little)
3. All 4 of us shot the Taurus more accurately or the Taurus was more accurate than the Beretta.

The factory Taurus and Beretta mags put the next round about 20% level with the barrel. This is a lot better than…say a 1911. In the case of my Taurus after about 600 rounds without cleaning it, it would have problems with hp rounds. I modify all my pistol mags to increase this percentage. I increased that 20% to 40% +/-5%. This worked well, even after 400 rounds of dirty wolf ammo without cleaning.

I have had many years of fine service from this gun and do not regret this purchase. We have put at least 7000 but not more than 10,000 rounds through it.

Hope this makes your decision harder. . Which feels good in your hand?

Ps, I still see Taurus 30rd mags at the gun shows in Houston for.................only............................$25-$30!!
I just purchase 2 NIB SS 17 round mags today for $23 each. Will the old hi-caps (Taurus and Beretta) work in the new pistols?

If your not into the name game, the Taurus will do the trick. Bonus...warranty, decock-frame mounted, savings on purchase. I've never had a bad one of either auto, but "stainless" is my final answer.
