I have a 226 Navy.  I am looking to get a 228 or 229 for a CCW.  Do their mags interchange between the different models?

Thanks for your time.

Within the 9mm you could use a 226 mag in a 9mm 228/9 but it'll stick out a bit.  You could also use a 40/357 226 mag in a 40/357 229.

Thanks!  So a 228/9 mag will be too short for the 226?

The 226 15 rd. 9mm mag is about 7/16" shy of being flush fit in a 229.

Ok, thanks for the info.  Good to know the 226 mags will at least work in both models.

Capacity is the same on a .40 P226 and P229, so there really isn't any point to doing this.

P226's of all calibers, P229 9mm's, and P228's all use the same diameter mags.  The P228 and P229 mags are a bit shorter obviously.  The P229's in 40/357 use a wider mag, which is why they still have the 12rd capacity with the shorter mag.

Actually, there's a perfectly good reason for interchanging 226/229 mags in the same capacity.  Since my dept only allows its officer's to carry Sig, I chose the 229 as my back-up for this very reason.

If for some reason my 226 goes tit's up, I don't want to worry about accidently going to my #1 or 2 mag in the heat of the moment and causing a problem.

Exactly!

This was my reason for asking.  It looks like I will only use 226 mags for my protection Sigs.  No need to make things confusing when the chips are down.
