I've been thinking about picking up a 38 or 39 for carry.  What say ye???

Does the 38 use the same holster as a 19??

The 38 does not use the same size holster as the 19. I saw some new Fobus holsters today and they say the one for the Glock 21s is the one to use for the .45 GAP series.

I am still trying to choose between a 36 and a 38 or 39.  My understanding is the 38 and 39 have some improvements. But so far I have not found anyone that has had any trigger time.

You do realize that they are different calibers, right?

36=.45acp
37, 38, 39=.45GAP

yes I do, if you notice I do not mention the 30.  So I am torn between the more proven single stack 36 with 6 rounds of ACP and the (at this point) unproven 38 with 8 rounds.

I also know that some folks have had some issues with the 36.

For me it wouldn't even be a choice.  36 Hands Down purely based on the cartridge issue.  .45ACP is a proven stopper and there are MANY available rounds for both practice and carry.  .45 GAP on the other hand is IMHO a solution to a problem that doesn't exist.  If your hands can't fit around a double stack .45, don't use it.  Modifying the cartridge is a poor solution.  Ammo availability for the .45 GAP is somewhat limited for both carry and practice loads.  Furthermore, it is more expensive.  Finally, it is unproven as an anti-personnel round.  As far as the 36 goes, I know several guys that carry them(I work at a local shop/range and talk to lots of guys that regularly carry) and have never heard of problems.  I'd genuinely like to hear some of the issues you've heard about.

Well, to be honest, the problems I have heard about are just that, problems I have only heard about.  But here is what I heard, and who knows, could be a problem with the 38's and 39's as well.

Locking blocks cracking

Missfeeds due to the slightest limp rist.  (this should not be a prob for me, I've got a number of 1911's and have never had a prob even with the Officers)

The elusive Kaboom

I hear what you are saying about the GAP and the ACP.  I have a number of 45 ACP's and I reload.  Practice ammo should not be as big of a problem.  But carry ammo is a good point.

The thing that appeals to me about the 38 is the 19 pistol size with 8 rounds of 45 cal ammo.  To be honest, if I could get my hand around a 30 or a 21, I would prob already own a USP compact.  Right now I can swing the pistol and a good rig for it.  I can not afford to pick up something I can't use.  Maybe the 36 is the right answer.

Well, ended up I got a good deal on a 36 with night sights. So now I am the proud owner of a single stack Glock 45 acp.
