After scouring the entire S&W section and not finding one thread about the 625 .45 ACP revolver, I am beginning the think that I am the only guy around that loves this revolver... I picked up a JM edition about 3 years ago and swapped the grips out for a set of Hogue over molded that fit my hand better, and haven't looked back! I love the moon clips for a revolver and this thing loads/reloads like greased lightning.. I often give my buddies a run for thier money in the reload department vs. thier autos. I've even won a few bets (beers after the range) when I beat a couple guys in a fire 6, reload, fire 6 drill with them shooting their autos...

Anyway, any other folks out there who love this big ol N frame as much as I do? MY only complaint is the lack of decent holsters for the N-frame 4 inch guns...

Sound off if you got a 625 and like it as much as I do mine.

I have a 5".  Great gun, even though I prefer the Gov't model for serious purposes.

Doesn't mean that a 625 won't handle the serious purposes, just that its a bit too bulky for CC.

The 625 is my primary cc piece during the cold weather months.

Also my bowling pin gun.  Almost unfair with that beauty on the line.

I've had two of them - and regret letting them go.  I do still have a Model 25 - which is the original article.  The 625s are indeed tack-drivers, and were certainly the revolver to beat in Bowling Pin shoots back in the day.  So, to answer your question, TAC, I loved mine.  Can't keep 'em all.  By the way, after awhile, I didn't bother using half or full moon clips.  just let the brass fall out into my hand.  Perhaps my mild reloads enabled me to do it that way.  Some would say the headspace would be problematic without the clips, but no issue in my experience.

The 625 is my dream gun. I just can't afford to pick one up.

I had a 5" that I loaded up with 45-SUPER handloads and killed deer with

I sold it to fund some other gun project and really miss it.

I still have a shitload of full-moon clips,  bought in bulk from ranch products

What kind of holster are you looking for?  I have several 4 inch N frames and the Bianchi 111 Cyclone is a very versatile holster.  Also have the Desantis clone of the Summer Special for an IWB CCW holster.

One of the few large revolvers I have any interest in.

I'm having a love affair with mine; IMO, one of the two best handguns I've owned in almost 50 years.

Incredibly accurate, very soft shooting, smooth action, in single action i believe the trigger is equaled by none................I can't say enough good things about this revolver.

I used to own one of the first edition 5" guns, and still kick myself for selling it.  I have replaced it with a 6" version that I'm still thinking about chopping back to 3 or 4 at S&W with a retune and round butt conversion, just haven't gotten around to dropping the coin yet.

Pay no attention to the avatar.

What are you looking for in a holster? Lots of good options available.

Wow, glad to hear I'm not alone in my appreciation for this fine peice of American iron... I'd like to find a good quality kydex belt holster for it for range/hunting use. Something at rides a little off set from the belt, with a little cant adjustability would be nice. I have a leather holster for it that I made myself (hobbiest holster maker), but I'm looking for something a little sturdier.

I couldn't be happier with this revolver. It is smooth, fast, accurate and runs like a top. I have ran just about every load I can get my hands on through it, to include several various loads I have loaded up and it just shoots all of them well. It does show a decided preference for Winchester SXT's when it comes to hollow point ammo.  The SXT'S not only shoot to POA, but clusters tight little groups just even with the top of the front sight.

I confess I have two 625s and a 25-2. I have had the 25-2 since about 1974. I cut the barrel to 5” in the early ‘80s. More recently I got a 625JM and later a 625PC. I think I like the PC the best. All are very accurate.

I love the finger grooves on my hunting guns but for competition pistols the finger grooves just get in the way when drawing from a holster.

I lusted after one for years, finally got one, and found the N-frame with a 4" barrel was just too much gun for me and my wife.

considering a 627 now, but also worried about the frame size and heft.

I have a .45acp M-625 that originally started came with a 5" heavy barrel. It was great for the range, but a little heavy to pack around. I picked up a 4" Mountain Gun barrel for it and had that installed. Now it is a whole lot easier to carry. I use either a Lobo pancake rig or a Bianchi Cycclone holster:

I got the barrel from Midway, but I don't see them being offered anymore. I think Brownell's also had them at one time too....

The Cyclone crossdraw rig is perfect for packing when I am riding around the ranch on the ATV. I use the Lobo holster under a light shirt and it conceals great!

Thanks again.

I use that holster for USPSA. I found I prefer the straight drop, but it is adjustable for forward and aft cants. I'm sure you'll like it.

That got snapped up pretty quickly by a guy on the S&W Forum....... Midway does list both the heavy 4" and 5" barrels, but they are on back order.....
