230gr gold dots are good. Don't need +P. No advantage, just more kick.

for future reference, here is the thread where such things are discussed:

www.jobrelatedstuff.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=16&t=162042

I can't say the above thread is the 'last word' on self-defense ammo, because technology changes, but it's a pretty accurate overview of what does/does not work.

winchester rangers are also available--check the EE for a dealer who's got great prices on em

If all +p gives you is more kick, then why is it that some bullet weights only passed the FBI specs with their +p or +p+ loads? (related to the 9mm portion of the link above)

I use 147gr 9mm rangers. They more than pass FBI minimum penetration standards and they are standard pressure rounds. I used to use 127gr+P+, but they penetrated less. They did snap more and make a louder bang, but those are what i'd consider negatives.

I was really refering to the 124-127 +p or +p+ loads because the standard pressure doesnt pass the test. As for the more kick and flash....you dont get more performance for nothing. I just dont by that +p or +p+ is useless....look at .38 special.
FYI: I use 147gr golden saber

how do 147 Win. Rangers not pass the test?

Everything I've seen suggests they not only pass the test, but practically rewrite it.

Take a look at:

le.atk.com/pdf/San.pdf

and

le.atk.com/pdf/Pierce%20County%20Workshop.pdf

I carry HST for a very good reason... I've seen all the commercial tested in real guns.

Is HST law enforcement only?

seemed like the 124 and 147gr 9mm were very equal on performance (just as a side note)

Which .45 ACP round penetrates the most? I assume it's going to be jacketed ball ammo.

I like The Win 230gr SXT+P's .

They test out at 980 fps with 13+ " of penetration and expand
to .820+ . I also don't find them to recoil any harder then
other 230gr rounds .
