I think you’ll be very happy with that holster. I’ve used a “DOJ” style rig extensively in the past and have always found it to be a great way of concealing a large handgun.

As a bit of history, I see you referred to it as an “Askins Avenger” style rig. While it remains to be seen whether or not Col. Charles Askins ever actually used the holster that borrowed his name (at least for the factory massed produced Bianchi rendition), the rig is often incorrectly credited to the late Col. (or at least his name) and instead should be given to someone else entirely.

You see, “Askins Avenger” is a bit misleading... the holster is actually the design of the late and great Bruce Nelson and was fist widely produced by Lou Alessi when Bruce could not keep up with the demand of the California Department of Justice, hence the name the DOJ. After retiring from law enforcement Bruce went on to produce that rig at his own shop calling it the  #1 Professional, he continued to do so until his death. To this day faithful reproductions that give proper credit to Nelson are being produced by a good number of leather ‘smiths such as Milt Sparks, Lou Alessi, Josh Bulman, and Matt Delfatti just to name a few. In fact most quality shops recognize the genius of Nelson’s designs and as such the linage of a large segment of today’s holsters can be traced back to pioneering Nelson designs such as the #1 Professional (DOJ) and Summer Special.
